Any suggestions for areas to wade fly fish that you can do on foot. No boat or kayak available. I will be going down with my family at the end of the month.

Also what flies should I take?
Will be using either a 6wt 9'0", or 9wt 9'0" with weight forward floating line.

Various Clousers 4-1/0 with small bead chain through heavy lead eyes. Some Crab and shrimp patterns weedless, gotchas and charlies. And some large deciever or bait fish patterns in case there are some jacks or tarpon. Show up with a good chunk of all of those and you'll be set. You may want to get some intermediate line for the 9wt if you want to fish the surf or jetties. Good Luck.

There are a couple public access bay side spots. One just past convention center and another further north. I however wanted to go total solitude and drove to the northern most spot of the highway where it turns to dunes. Parked packed up and hoofed it up and over the dunes to the bay. Miles of ankle to knee deep water all to yourself. Went out twice. Pack your food and water as well. I took a camelbak hydration pack and some protein bars.

Is that all the way at the end of 100? I heard that is quite a walk but well worth it.

Stop by The Fly Shop in Port Isabel (south side of 100 near the lighthouse) and ask Larry Haines where "The Hole in the Fence" is located exactly. Its on the north side of 100, west of Port Isabel High School, near a reflector, and you can tell where the grass is patted down from cars having parked there. You really do cross under a fence, don't worry about trespassing or anything, because you're not, and walk a well-worn path through foliage, and then it opens out onto the Lower Laguna Madre. Waded it almost daily in the summers of 2007 and 2008. Fished clousers, crawfish patterns, white WoollyBugger patterns, white rabbit-hair patterns.

Yes. Its not a terrible hike. Take water like I said and something to eat. Just over the first set of dunes is a marsh area with some thick tall grass. When you get to the area, run like hell to avoid being savagely mauled by millions of mosquitos! You're safe once you reach sand again.

At the point where I took this second pic I had waded almost all the way from the Island into the LLM just shy of the ICW and was still only mid thigh deep and crystal clear.

Hit Holly Beach, and start wading the shoreline north. Be on the lookout for tailing, and cruising reds.

Will see what I can find about "Hole in the Fence"
What kind of depths am I going to be dealing with? Are we talking light beadchain patterns or do I need to go with a bit more weight?

The Island side has sand from about the Convention Center north, and the bayside is variable, but the "Hole in the Fence" starts grass and hard bottom (last time I was there), and goes off the edge into mud as I recall. Your most secluded and pristine experience will be on the sand.

Shoreline around Holly Beach is pretty sandy, and good for wading. Bead chain eyes, and small size dumbbell lead eyes will get it done.

Hey guys, found out I'm headed down next weekend with the new lady friend and will definitely be checking this spot out...pictures to follow.

Any affordable guides worth contacting? Been working hard and wouldn't mind spending a little dough on a nice day out.
