Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. My wife and I will be in Port Aransas in a week. Can yall suggest a guides for offshore and inshore fishing? We will probably want to do an 8 hr trip. Thanks in advance.

Are you wanting to do a party boat or private charter? A huge difference in the price of the two.

http://www.dolphindocks.com/This is who my wife and I typically use and we prefer the 12 hr trip (haven't been in 2 yrs but we always liked Captain Tim). Doesn't cost much more and you have more fishing time (most of the time spent is getting to and from the fishing areas). I've heard of good things from Deep Sea Headquarters too. If you decide on the 12 hr trip, try to get booked on the Dolphin Express. It's the smallest boat in their fleet but is the "fastest" (relative term for offshore party boats). The other advantage is it being smaller, you have a smaller crowd on board too.

My experience with Dolphin Docks was not a good one. Fishermans Wharf is a good company and they use electric reels which may be a good thing or bad depending on what you like. Deep Sea headquarters is a company I highly recommend and I have used them many times.

i would suggest the FIshermans WHarf. nice big boat, good bathrooms, full galley, AC, and wide stable platform. ask them to let you use a regular rod/reel instead of electric- it will be more enjoyable!

I'll agree on Captain Tim at Dolphin Docks...he's the best in the business and he does run the fastest party boat in Port A. 1-800-EYE-FISH

Avoid the wharf! It's a tourist trap and to prove it, no local fishermen who actually knows anything about fishing is a loyal customer there. The deckhands are a joke (these days anyway). Go to Dolphin Docks or Deep Sea Headquarters. The cat boats are not your best bet. Would you rather go on a big boat or a boat that will give you the best catch? Every outfit will put as many people as they can on the boat so a bigger boat with 90 plus people is just as crowded as the Express with 30 people. The Pelican is generally thought of as the best party boat in South Texas by local fishermen. I'm not gunna sugar coat how sub-par the wharf is, I would hate to see you waste your money on a trip with them when you could have a much better catch with Dolphin Docks or Deep Sea.

We went to Dolphin Docks for the 8 hr trip and had a BLAST! We went out on the Dolphin Express with Captain Tim. We started fishing for Red Snapper and limited out very quickly, then we went to the rocks and caught kingfish, rainbow racers, some wahoo and some sharks. The crew worked their butts off and were very friendly and helpful. My wife and I had a great time and will be going again.

Is the dolphin express really faster than deep sea headquarters boats? I thought it was slow. I have been on the gulf eagle before, and scat cat would leave 30 minutes earlier, and we would pass it up on the way out. The last time I went on scat cat was on an 8hr when we drift fished on both sides of the boat at the same time. They would tell one side to only let your line out a small number of pulls. It was a tangled mess and after that I have been going with deep sea headquarters every since.
