Actually blacktips and spinners are two different species. They are closely related and resemble each other. The main difference is that on the Spinner the 1st dorsal fin begins above a point behind the pectoral fin, and the snout is longer.

Good info did not know that! In may surf fishing with deployed baits when you get a hook up the sharks ( Black Tips?) will put on a show. Some times you will see them jump before you know he's hooked.

A quick easy way is to look at the black markings on the anal fin. Spinners will have black markings. Blacktips won't.
