Several years ago I was camping in Oklahoma near Beavers Bend. Driving near the dam I thought I saw a bunch of leaves blowing across the road. When I got closer it was several hundred big brown tarantula's. Very cool to see but later it was difficult to sleep in my little tent - felt like things were crawling on me.

ohhh [censored], I hate spiders. Snakes, bugs anything else I have no fear of, spiders just freak me out though. If I saw that thing near my house everyone within 5 miles would think that someone scared the [censored] out of a little girl, sad thing is my kids know I have a unhealthy fear of spiders and try to scare the [censored] out of me with them every summer!

tie a string to its back leg and to a shirt button and put it on your shoulder, go to a bar. free drinks all night just to stay away. biker bars work good for this too, they think you are nuts and want no part of ya. use to keep em around for pets and let em crawl on my arms, use a pencil to turn em around and tap the back side they can jump for a looooong way.

Tarantulas that jump are usually arboreal from tropical forests. My son loves invertebrates and has two species of tarantualas from Texas. We just came back from a herping trip in the Trans-Pecos area. He looked for his favorite species for three nights until 5am. He found dozens of the two species he has already found, but not the one he was trying to find. He had quite a backpack full of inverts by the time we ended the trip. Here he is with a big female he calls "Amy."

Here is a bigger pic for you

Not sure but looks similar to the ones we see around Ute Lake in the spring. They cover the roads towards evening. It was tough missing em while driving. They are cool insects.

Actually arachnids, not insects.

Saw those out on the roads out in W'ford growing up. WAY nicer to see than the rattlers and scorpions. *shiver*
