I wanna start doing some wading for some specks with artificial but I have no experience. I dont know where to go or when to go. What to use. Dont know how to work it. Dont know what colors. Does anyone fish artificial off of a bank, if so would like to know how to do that.

Where are u going to be fishing? I know of a few spots in port A that are pretty good for lure fishing and u can get to them without a boat. As far as lures go, I have always used touts, cocahoes, wildeyes, topwaters and so on. I also like DOA in natural color and TTKs in liquid shrimp.

If you are heading down to Crystal Beach the easiest place to go is Rollover Pass. You will see a bunch of people there early in the morning. You can wade out to the left hugging the shorline for about 400 yards...It goes on forever. Artifical I would suggest limetrouse saltwater assasins. They have been doing very well out there, mostly trout and reds if you get back in the grass.

I would always carry a few spoons as a fish finder if you're new to an area. I like the one called "Hot Rod" because it casts further than the Johnson Sprite. Tie it behind the smallest barrel swivel you feel cofortable with. I use the silver spoon over the gold but both work. You can reel it fast or vary the speed to maintain a certain depth. Assasins are always good so have a few different colors and don't be afraid to switch colors to find what works. For the saltwater assasin I like the jig heads with the curled wire on it to hold the assasin on. Don't bother with the weedless as they just collect more grass. Cast it and pump it while reeling in for open water. I usually slow it down to work a gut and sometimes bounce it off the bottom. Look at the tides ( see previous posts) stay out of the strong currents (ie: know where they are!), shuffle you feet, wear waders or long pants and ray guards and take a bottle of water with you. Good luck and let us know how you do.

I guage it on the size of the Assasin you use, bigger assasin heavier jig head. The ones I get are from academy and come in a package with a white label with blue writing. Just plain lead no paint on them.

Does it matter what color the jig head is. What are cocahoes? Piepuncher those wildeyes your taling about arent there a few different kinds. Do they all do the damn thing or do some work better than others. Thanks

I don't use a colored jig head just lead. Go to Academy and check out their saltwater selection. They have all these baits. Fish them in the right place the right way and they will all work. Best way to get your feet wet is to get your feet wet. Don't be afraid to try different retreives. Get some spoons, soft plastics and a few topwaters, stick 'em around a wide brimmed hat or in a wade belt and start shufflin'.

Fish 4 it, do you think i could go on the bay side of the rolloever and fish artificail and catch something. What about trying this from a bank about 2 miles from rollover toward gilchrist and high island. On the intercoastal. If anyone really wants to come fish with me and stay at a beachouse that my dad owns. I would be more than happy to go fishing with someone that knows what they are talking about. Thanks

Dewser, I don't know much about the area around rollover and glichrist, been there once some time ago. I mainly fish East/West Matagorda and Port O. Sounds like a great opportunity. I would love to go but I am tied up for the next several weekends. Hope you find someone to go with you.
