Fish don't swim backwards so don't swish them.

Working with the fish some is mainly for the bigger fish that you have a long battle with that wears them down.

Well first I make a cut behind the gill plate, then I cut a shallow cut along the spine pushing my blade through right below the anal fin. Then I take my knife and gently cut the meat off the rib bones. Then I romove the fillet leaveing the sking and scales intack. I turn the fish over and do the same. Then U chunk them back into the lake. Eat and release......JK I get them back into the water as soon as possible.

I made a video about this during a elctro shock survey we did at Rough Creek Lodge. I tend to swish the fish. I probably do this more for out of habit and what I was taught by my fisheries biologist friends. I'm not sure if it has much benefit or not. It is an interesting debate, and one that is difficult to prove one way or another. The video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy3dNYAYcPA
