First of all thanks for the forum to the powers that be on here!
I'll be in Galveston for a couple days and would love to get on fish. Lots of inland Knowledge but I have minimal experience surf casting for anything other than steelhead & salmon on Lake Superior and a few sierra's in Cabo. What should I bring? Line & #'s? What should I hope to catch? What areas should I target? What baits and technique?
Any charters anyone would recomend?
Thanks in advance for anything.

To catch some good trout at night go to SLP pier and throw some Texas Trout Killers double rig white body with char tail. You can get these at walmart or academy. You should also try to freeline some live shrimp. especially if you are there as the sun rises the Ladyfish and the Spanish Macks go crazy for it. I use a Shimano Stradic 4000 reel with a 7' All Star rod. I have Powerpro 30lb test. The 30# is not really needed, I just dont like to loose fish. Good Luck.

i've seen people catch fish in the surf but i'm just no good at it, so if ti was me i'd drive down the coast to freeport or quintano jetties and fish off them (they are paved like a sidewalk) minimun id use 14-17 lb. on reel with a barrel swivle and a 20-30 lb 14-18" leader and a #1 kael hook and live shrimp, my want to to put egg sinker above the swivle (or not) may want to take a couple of wire leader in case you get into spanish mac or shark. good luck

Thanks guys, all info is good info. Sounds pretty much like Kamloops fishing up here on the North Shore during the winter, minus the leader and we use spawn instead of shrimp.
