I like Lake Conroe. If you dont mind traveling about an hour north of Houston, it has just about everything you could ask for.

+1 on Lake Conroe. Used to go to Lake Somerville, and really liked that lake, too.

We need to get our Houston (or at least Katy) fishermen together for a fishing trip or something. Would be nice to get to meet some of the other folks int he local area.

There are places, the Cinco ranch ponds have been good to me. You should try to get out and Fish on Fayette though, I'll probably be hitting FC a few times from now thru December. Might have a back seat open.
If you do not have a boat, offer up some money to fish Fayette from someone's back seat. Gas from Katy would cost me approx 75-$85 in gas. 1/2 of that is about $40. I will never understand why no one does this, and I refuse take free riders anymore. Not bad for a day of fishing.

This^ I also use to go out to Conroe alot before the drought started really taking its toll on the water level. Thinking about going out there Sunday to check it out and get pics of exposed structure where I fish sometimes for whenever it decides to fill up, might get some fishing in too. Might even drag the kayak out there.
