What brewboy said. Works for me.
Also If I suspect my shrimp is fading I toss em in the drink and get a fresh one.

ive used those special hooks back in the early 80's they work well with not having to penetrate the shrimp with a hook if u have to hook the shrimp i do either between the black spot and the horn or in the black spot its all good fish and have fun----

So does anybopdy know for a fact that the black dot is the brain? And DO NOT go as far back as the black spot behind the horn, thats the brain. I have always heard to not hook in the balck dot because it is the shrimps brain. Hook it through the head under the horn and clear of the dot. I have only ever seen them hooked through the black dot right behind their head i do either between the black spot and the horn or in the black spot its all good

You should definatly NOT hook through the black dot. Hook it in the tail or in the horn ridge on top of the head in front of the black dot.

You hook a shrimp at the base of the horn and you deff. DO NOT go through the black dot. I have never heard of anyone hooking their shrimp through the brain. Also, Hooking them behind the horn does not kill the shrimp. I dont think I have ever had one die on my hook, unless the legs have been ripped off or he had been hit by something. If it is a small shrimp go with a small hook but the horn is the way to go. You can use a khale or a small Treb. either works. If you hook through the horn, the legs will get bitten off of your shrimp before the dang thing dies. If your shrimp comes in alive, you need to move to where the fish are!!!!

DO NOT go through the black dot.this is the shrimps brain.just as everyone has pointed out. hook it under the horn just at the base.if the sfrimp is to small hook in the first segment by the tail.if you put your hook in the black dot you are going to kill the shrimp .and you are only going to catch trash fish. all most forgot brake the tip of the horn off this helps keep the horn out of the way and inproves the hook set ..I hope this helps I have fished this way for years and every bite is one on the hook !!!!

i'll vouch for hooking it right under the horn...it allows them to have more natural movements and seems to produce a little better than when they're hooked through the tail

This is a little weird, but sometimes I hook them on a 1/4 ounce jigeahd through side of the body and out the tail when the fish are turned on. They dont last long, but I dont lose many fish or shrimp either. I've done it both ways...the head and the tail...but when the reds are hitting, I go for the tail.
Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

I hook just under the horn in the head. be careful if you have sun screan on your hands it will kill the bait.

When I use shrimp to fish with, I hook them from the bottom through the top of the tail. About the 2nd or 3rd part of the shell covering. I think it gives the shrimp a more lively look and I seem to be able to cast it farther in my opinion but thats just me. Hope this tip of mine helps you sir.

I always hook in the horn, not near the black dot... Here is a link for different places to rig a shrimp. From Florida. http://home.cfl.rr.com/floridafishing/shrimp.htm

Why the heck would you want to drag a shrimp backwards by hooking them in the tail? If the shrimp is small, use a smaller hook. 100% right.
