Whats up fellas. Looking to buy my 9-yr old son his first baitcaster. He's real eager to learn and knows how to use a spinning reel quite well now. Any baitcasters I should consider? We fish both fresh and saltwater, so something inexpensive but is saltwater rated is what we're trying to target. Thanks!

H20 Express Mettle. You can buy them at Academy for $50. I think the combo riot is going on right now too, so you can get one with a 6'6 Castaway rod for $70 instead of the normal price of $100.

Hey BG have you seen the new Pro Max that Abu's coming out with? Those look pretty sweet for a sub $100 reel. Abu is starting to step their economy line up something fierce. I wish Daiwa would do the same so I didn't have to fork over $300 for a Zillion after taxes.

I think the best idea so far is to buy yourself something shiny and new, and hand one down.

I havent seen them yet, but I have heard some great things The reels that daiwa has out that are under $100 are really impressive. I worked on a buddy's of mine and its one of the nicest reels I ever felt. I dont think they make that particular one anymore but count on them to step up at Icast this year. Some really good things are about to come out of daiwa.

I really hope so. Daiwa has been focusing on the JDM for awhile, they need some new US reels. I love my Zillions but for the price they should at least have them cut down on the weight a tad.

H20 Express Mettle. You can buy them at Academy for $50. They are a 10 ball bearing reel and they run them on sale for $25. I would get him a reel that fits his hands and has room to pick backlashes out. I would stay away froom cheep chineez reel they have no quality. You can do a search on this fourm and the mettle is a top rated reel for the money, lots of post.
One you build and fish with your own hand built custom rod you will fish with nothing else!
