I don't need a custom , just a good reliable one.
Anybody on here give lessons how to throw it? I have never thrown one. Ever

7ft Definetly...I can throw a 7 better than I can a 5ft..Bought 2 on Ebay ..cheap 30 bucks for each ..dont remember the brand. As far as teaching..its more of a flick of the wrist with me..Funny thing I learned from a member on here probably 20 years ago..Was on RH saw Doug aka Sassyman..and flagged him down and said I give you $20 bucks to show me how to throw the net..I followed him to the tressel by sweet 16..still throwing the same way today..By the way thanks Sassyman.

There is more than one way to throw a cast net. I learned from a video that I purchased at the Bass Pro Shop. It is the spin method that includes putting a peice of the net in your teeth. I can do it but after a few years of doing it, I am getting more concerned about the germs that I am ingesting. Time to learn the other toss out in front of you method that looks so easy.

one of the best nets going is the betts blue .bps in grapevine carries them or you can order it.6 or 7 ft. it;s up to you, i am getting a little older now to do the seven but the six works good for me .I use it every day.it has plenty of weight to it which helps a lot.

Get a quarter inch monofilament and get the other bait fish too. As compared to a three eighth mesh.
Joe pool 13 incher The way to communicate with the fish is to drop them a line. To argue on a fishing boat is to have de bait.

For learning I would go to Wally world and get one, Frabill brand.
I've had $100 nets and $30 nets and they just about tear the same. You will get snagged some time ,I promise. Cheaper ones are a little "stiffer" to me.
Soak it over night in a 5 gal bucket of water with a cup of fabric softener , rinse and let dry. That will make it easier to deal with.
I have been using a 3/8" this summer, that's as small as I will go, generally I use the 1/2". 1/2" seams to sink a little faster and I get "gilled" shad in both, but less in the 1/2".

As you age it helps to learn easier methods of casting a net. This is the easiest I've learned for sore shoulders or backs. http://www.calusa.com/howtothrow.cfm

As stated above, there are several methods of casting a net. This is the link that helped me the most, and it doesn't involve putting the net in your teeth: Click here

There is a tackle shop in Paris, TX that I bought a 7ft Old Salt for $50. Great net for the price.

There is more than one way to throw a cast net ... the spin method that includes putting a peice of the net in your teeth. Oh gross!! Turtle poop and salmonella!! No putting any part of castnet in my mouth, no way, no how, no never! If you ever see me out there, ask for some pointers on throwing a castnet. Much easier to demonstrate than to describe.

A little turtle poop never hurt anyone! Just makes the old immune system strong. No worries.
