Has anyone ever went on a fishing trip from Woodys? I found the website while looking through the net. Just wondered had anyone else used them, and what they thought. We are planning a trip the first of Feb. usually stay at the jetties but thought we might try this out. Thanks for any help!!

I've done bay and offshore with them. They have good and bad guides, like all others. For bay fishing, ask for Coop's guide service or Ed Woodhouse.
For offshore, ask for the Marlin Babe. They catch fish. Good luck.

If you are doing a bay trip, then ask for coop for sure...he is one of the older ones and is a fish catcher.
As for going out in the gulf....I typically do not do it this time of year, I rather fish the bays and catch stuff on artificials.

Sorry I haven't seen this post but for future reference.... I ran offshore charters from Woody's for 5 years. I still know most of the captains there. The offshore captain that I trust the most for overall safety, courtesy, experience, fishing knowledge and just all-around great guy is Captain Brad Barwise of Waterworld Charters http://www.wwcharter.com/. For bay fishing Coop, and Alex Porter are the consistent producers and both fine sportsmen with a ton of knowledge.

Waco Kid, I hope you find someone who can make you happy. I don't know what happened with your charter but I can tell you that in my years of association with Alex all I ever saw getting off of his boat were satisfied customers. You must have been expecting something that was not delivered? Without knowing the particulars of your trip I can't fathom why you would never consider going with any particular captain. Since I am no longer in the business I can wholeheartedly recommend you buy your own boat, spend 20 years learning the waters you want to fish, buy a dizzying array of tackle, subject your body to the abuses of extreme weather and pray to God that when you take one of your friends or family fishing you can produce for them as well as you would expect a guide to produce.

strider if you take the time to read the original question, has anyone booked a trip with Woody's? you will see that I only answered that question. My beef is with Woody's and not Mr. Porter. I did not mean to put down Mr. Porter. However I WILL NOT say anything good about Woody's Sports Center. As far as buying my own boat and tackle and fishing my own waters for 20 years. Been their done that and still doing that. And quite productively I might add.

Forgive me. I took the post as bad press against Alex. I can understand someone having a beef against docks. They are like "agents" and sometimes do what they have to do to sell their product and to heck with ethics.
