Could not pass up soaking a few plastics at our little spot today, no beaming heat and calm weather. Also went a few days ago as well.

Saw something in the water swim up near the bank and was fairly large, at least 20-30 inches long with spots running from the dorsal fin area to the tail, didnt see the head so if anyone has any idea what it might be, please enlighten me. so far we've caught green sunfish, warmouth, channel cats, and LMB..

pics from today. forgot to bring my measuring tape. =T

maybe more to come tomorrow, and I'm bringing my measuring tape!

Great mess of fish. On your question, it sounds like a spotted gar. They're pretty fun to catch just watch out for the teeth.

at first I thought gar as well, but the tail shape-end of the fish looked more like a bass with the dorsal and pectoral fins in the middle of the body. saw it only when the fish turned to where i could see the "middle to the tail" part of the body. The spots looked similar to a speckled trout, but larger across the top half of the body. Any freshwater cats with spots?

Nice shots!

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach
