I read the whole article, good grief. Now they are putting feather extensions in DOG'S HAIR TOO. This is just incredible.

Read the comments below the article, pretty hilarious. My hope is this is the beginning of the end. Like all trends and fads, once it gets popular enough it wont be cool anymore and we can have our dead chicken feathers all to ourselves.

We got in a couple of capes (ginger) the other day. They are safely hidden away. These normally sell for $29.99. I suggested we temporarily jump the prices by 3X...and blame it on supply & demand (for those who took Economics 101). The idea did NOT fall on deaf ears and may be implemented. Most fly tiers I know, have a stock of capes (I do), we are just taking advantage of a temporary situation...kinda like gas prices rising and falling (well, mostly rising). Our forecasters (me), think the fad will be over by the end of the summer...besides, some dressers have taken to using Flashabou instead of feathers. Flash, we have boat loads of it and can readily get it. Capes aren't made by throwing two chickens in a pen and having them magically appear...

David, if it's easy to get and everyone can get it cheap, then thats not very cool is it. As soon as the producers can catch up with production to the demand then the fad will die off, but until then. . .
It's more than the catfish would do.

Derik, most suppliers are out. Our 35 stores are out as are all 6 distribution centers, with no incoming shipments forecast. You can't find any long, narrow feathers in DFW. However, I think the demand will die by the end of the summer.

Due to a lack of interest, due to lack of supply?

Fly fishing will be around long after girls stop putting saddle hackles in their hair. I'm sure I have enough to last me until this fad is over with.

Just go up to the girls and tell them that since they're using your feathers for your flies, you'll just snip some of their hair to use in it's place. Soon enough, they'll get the idea
