Do you have a boat? You should be able to catch a red from the jetties. Catch a piggy perch in the rocks and cast out. Finger mullet do just as good.

We usually do well about 15 mi. down the national seashore.
Reds, specks, shark, rays, etc. But you will have to have 4X4.
Catch bait in the surf. We usually sain or throw a net. We will be down there that same week. Hope the seaweed isn't as thick as it has been lately.
Good Luck!

someone told me to go 3/4 down the jettie and cast out on the beach side. said there are a couple holes out there the fish get in. live finger mullet on carolina rig. I would use 30# power pro, for leader and mainline. egg sinker so it moves around, circle hook so it sets itself. DONT SET THE HOOK ON CIRCLE HOOK..lol. Had this pounded in my head by a deckhand.... lol. Let the fish hook itself- just hang on and start reeling.

Jared is correct. Do NOT use Power Pro as leader. Spectra cuts faster than mono under tension.

lol.. now who would use spectra as a leader? 15 miles down the beach would lead to some good fishing but it could also lead to a stuck car or truck in rough driving conditions. Two weeks ago when I was down, the tide was way up and the sand right next to the dunes was way soft. I dont mind driving on hard sand but soft sand is scary. I got stuck two years ago and felt so bad calling my girlfriend and having her parents come out and get me with a 4x4. SUCKED... Oh, sorry, I just read the post about the powerpro leader. One last note. U can catch fish on the surf side of the jetty, especially trout but if u r interested in big reds, try fishing the bay side of the jetty on an outgoing tide. U will want to be near the end of it but I am sure u will catch if u have the right gear. On an outgoing tide, all the baitfish and crabs in the area are washed out to sea and are pulled twords the ends of the jetties. When this happens, u have all kinds of reds and tarpon at the end of the jetty slurping up lunch. Good luck and your deep sea headquarters trip should be fun. Which trip are u going on?

fin and feather in aransas pass at night. It is a lighted pier and there are always fish. Not allways keeps, but the kids can have a blast either way.
