ive broken 3 veritas in the past 4 months..one casting a small swimbait(well within the rating for the rod)..second was on the hookset in a brushpile on a 2 lber...third was in open water on the hookset on a 2lber. i think it has alot to do with the quality of the rod. The first time these rods came out, I was at a BPS in Missouri. I set the butt end of the rod on the ground so the rod was pointing straight up in the air. I used my left hand to hold the rod about in the middle and used my right hand to move the tip from side to side so I can see how stiff/soft the tip was. On the first movement it snapped.

I have only broke two fishing in my lifetime. One was an academy H2O rod that broke the first time out. I was throwing a red eye shad and ripping it out of the grass and on about the 4 or 5th cast is broke - Never bought another one.
The other one was this past weekend, but it was not the rods fault. I skipped a jig way under a dock and got stuck in the rocks I was applying pressure trying to break the 25lb flourocarbon and the rod snapped at the handle - I know better and should have cut the line, but thought the 7' heavy duty rod would break the line before the rod.

Did they give you a discounted price? Maybe didn't charge you for it at the checkout counter?

I say we quit buying all these new-fangled rods and go back to fiberglass fence posts we all learned on!

If 2 rods get hit together it will weaken them, soon they will snap in that spot on a hook set.Something to think about running rough water with rods not staped down or laying on top of each other.

I've only broken two rods, a Veritas and Bucoo. They both broke on the first hookset. I think manufacturers get some bad blanks but I think alot may come down to shipping issues ( being poorly packed and rough handling during shipping ). I've broken plenty out of my own stupidity but these are the only two that broke and I know I had done nothing wrong... Im sure there are plenty broken due to operator too...

Most rods are shipped from the mfg. well protected from damage, but after that they are not handled with much care. I check inventory at several of the big box fishing stores and see how the rods are sent from their dist. center. I see rods, 20 to 50 of mixed brands, just laying loose in cardboard boxes (4ft.by4ft.) on skids. Most are with handles down, sticking out at an angle with other items under and on top of them. I have seen them being pulled out of the boxes by the tips with eyes catching on each other. I don't see how they make it to the racks for sale without some damage.
I check every rod I buy because of what I have seen and have not bought some rods because of marks or eye damage.

The only rod I've ever had break that was not my fault was on Falcon Lake. First fish of the day, fishing with Charlie H. Got her (6lber) to the boat, she sees the boat and says not today. She broke a 7 ft Shimano Crucial about 4 inches above the cork. Charlie let me fish with his new Falcon Cara Swim Jig rod the rest of the day.

In high school I loved the Quantum lite rods and would break a few around the rod tip.Since then I have only broke one and it was definately my fault.Snapped an Allstar about three years ago while I was hung up.
