in my opinion ling and wahoo are almost 2 different times of year. wahoo are pretty good (reliably caught) Jan-March.
ling on the other hand dont really turn on till may or june and last till sept ish.
you will catch them other times but in my experience not as often.
as for guides It might help if you gave us an idea of what port your fishing from. but even then I doubt I could help as I dont use em much.

You weren't going to ask the captain to target BOTH of these species on the same trip, right? Here is how it goes, ling show up in april on the shallow wells near the beach. Wahoo show up in April (if they ever left) at the deep rigs and floaters near the 100 curve. You can catch ling occassionally while kingfishing. You will catch a wahoo occassionally while kingfishing. You can catch ling occasionally while snapper fishing. You can catch ling occassionally while ling fishing. You occassionally catch wahoo while marlin fishing. You NEVER catch ling while wahoo fishing, but you might occassionally catch a wahoo. If you REALLY want to target ling, try the gulf coast of Alabama or FLA where they have a real 'run'. You will never get a wahoo while doing that. HOWEVER, you could charter Tommy Joe on the Yellowfin or Paul on the 'ALL GOOD' and have a better chance of getting both a ling and a wahoo in the same day. My bet is you would pick off a ling while snapper fishing, then after limiting out get the wahoo on a weedline looking for dolphin.

thanks tbuck, no not looking for both at same time, basicly looking for good eating fish that are bigger than most snapper but smaller than billfish, wont mind catching snapper but don't want that to be the focus. ling or wahoo or bonito or dolphin sounds fun not just pullin meat up off the bottom.

The Ling fishing should only start to pick up from here on out. Ling will start showing up more and more around close rigs and bouys as we get farther in the spring.Wahoo are best to go target specifically during the winter months (dec-feb) out at the Gardens or Stetson. Wahoo will still be around and very catchable, just not as easy to specifically target. Last June during SKA Galveston there were several 70-100 pound class Wahoo caught. We boated a 74, on a TLD 15.
go big or go home.
