Planning on taking the boat to Conroe to fish with my son. First time on the lake. What is the best boat ramp and bait shop close to the 1097 bridge?

Hey Tod, I'm sure you've already made the trip, but if you haven't, the closest place to launch currently is either at FM 830 boat ramp, or Scott's Ridge. 830 will be a bit closer. Also...DON'T PARK at Scott's Ridge at NIGHT! They will break into your truck!!!! For bait, there is a convenience store called M&N Grocery (936-856-5013) on the east side of the 1097 that usually has good minnows. I carry a laminate of all the bait shops in my wallet so I can call someone else in case one bait shop is sold out. Hopefully this will help you out. Have fun and be safe!

Agree with texanlon. The convenience store is a regular stop for me for minnows on my way to Scotts Ridge. I don't know the name, but it is on your right as you go toward the fm 1097 bridge from I-45. I have never had a problem at Scotts Ridge and have launched/parked there dozens of times, but never parked there at night. They have an unattend entrance pay booth, and I have seen where it has been broken into to steal the entry fees, so I can certainly understand not parking there at night. I have not launched at the 830 free ramp, but hear it is risky for theft. Scotts Ridge is best, IMO. Stay to the right when going from Scotts Ridge to the main lake. I have not been up there for several weeks, but know the lake must be several feet low, and there are lots of stumps to the left.
