I'm relatively new to using the open face reels, I'm not sure what they're called, but they look like the revo, ambassadeur 5000 and whatnot.

I've tried them before with little success at casting. Yesterday, I was at my dad's and he had an old Quantum reel setting over there and I brought it home.

I can actually cast this one. All the others I've played with I couldn't cast more than about 40-50 feet. This one, with the line that's on it, I cast all the line off of the reel, roughly 75 feet.

So, now I'd like to put the proper line on it and have read about braided with a fluorocarbon leader and whatnot. I don't think I need all that, I just need new line and I've always been told not to use monofilament on this type of reel.

I use Suffix mono on them with no problems. Get you some cheap line and get used to casting it then you can look for higher end line. Cajun Red is a good cheap line that will hold up to just about anything. I use it and Suffix, as well as Ande.

I've got some cajun line, stren super knot, trilene something or other, and an 880 yard roll of 6lbs test trilene that was on clearance for 3 bucks.
