TPWD & SJRA had their backs against the wall against the property owners and political pressure, and had to give in by not only putting the carp in, but spraying just about every piece of vegetation that was around hydrilla. Seven Coves Bass Club was the leading organization in support of TPWD and SJRA, but we were outnumbered. It takes more than just a few to be taken seriously, regardless of facts.

When the vegetation comes back again (and I have faith it will), I hope the ones that are complaining about the lack of grass will join together and stand firm about the lake they say they care about, not just stand back and do nothing but complain about the amount of carp and lack of native vegetation.

I believe the homeowners have the right to complain about the grass but that is the only right they have. TPWD should have total control over that lake and what goes in or comes out. That lake was not built for homeowners, it was only devoloped years after the lake was impounded to get a few Conroe land sharks rich. The TPWD overseeing lake Conroe is a joke and is run by total douche bags. As far as the grass coming back, look for it in about 20 years. Thats how long it took from their first miscalculation in the mid 1980's. I fish there occasionally, but I pump no money into the Conroe economy. I buy fuel, and all my supplies in my home town and put in at a free launch.

Not a personal attack smile it's just I grew up fishing that lake with my dad in the 70's and 80's and it just rattles my bones how they've screwed that lake up.

Yep, my father n law tells me the same thing all the time about how good that lake use to be. He says they use to call it a little Toledo Bend. Says there use to be hydrilla all over and clear water...

The lake was outstanding a few years back. And really hasn't been horrible lately, just have to work harder. You will need to put in cover in various depths to account for the season. A friend put in one brush pole and fished it three days later and caught a 9.7 and 10.3 on consecutive casts. Pure luck and the pile has been average since, but knowing where the brush piles are is key on Conroe.. Side imaging helps a bunch, but nothing is better than putting out your own structure.

The lake is full of really big bass and the more boats get on the water the better it is out in the deep water and the docks the fish get really close to the cover and in the cover !
