Port Aransas has the pass from the Gulf waters to inland protected waters and is not much of a real port. And Aransas Pass is much more of a port area. Never has made much sense to me. Not serious about the name change. Just a thought.

The original name for Port Aransas was the town "Tarpon" due to the huge tarpon population that used to exist there back in the day. Aransas Pass was originally supposed to be the major port in that area, but instead Corpus Christi ended up with it. Port A really isn't much of a port, you're right. But then again, Aransas Pass isn't much of a port nowadays either. I'm originally from Aransas Pass & have shure watched how things have deteriorated over the years as far as AP being a port, & the town too for that matter. I'm from AP but didn't know about any of this until my senior year of high school. I chose to do a report for my English class on the history of Aransas Pass. It was pretty cool digging up all that info & looking at the old black & white pictures of when that whole area was first being settled.

I've always thought that. Seems a drunk sailor switched 'em one day and I stuck. Any time I talk about the two I have to remember "ok it's opposite of logical so inland side is the pass and out on the island at the pass is the port...." :-/ Great now I'm confused again.
Anyway we just got back three days ago. Didn't get to fish much, maybe 30 minutes. Caught one keeper trout in the packery channel. Went back into the bay from there and ended up having to tow in a boat that crashed into a house boat out there. Took 1.5 hours to get back and by then it was time to go in. Did go floundering though. Got 5 the first night, 6 the next, and one the last night. Forgot the name of the CCPD Sgt who took me to his floundering spot but if he's on here I wanted to say thanks again. Definitely made one happy NBPD K9 guy happy to finally get a few flounder. Thanks again.

The book "Aransas County, the tale of sleepy coastal county" is a great read (not sure if that is the correct title), but another interesting fact, both Aransas Pasa and Port Aransas are not in Aransas County, go fiugre.
Keep a tight line!

Nobody hurt other than a little pride, the boat, and the cabin he hit. As far as being off duty I guess not but I know that almost every other person on this forum would have gone to help also; it's just the right thing to do. My dad taught me a long time ago that you always stop whatever you're doing to help a person stranded on the water. Things can go bad real fast out there and if it were you in that position you would want someone to stop and help you. Even if I wasn't a cop I would of gone to help same as anyone else. Besides I'm not that good of a fisherman anyway and probably wouldn't have made the same impression on the fish as we made on the three kids that were on that boat. They may never forget the two guys who towed them back to land and maybe someday when they see someone in trouble they will lend a hand. It's called Christianity, pass it on.
