Are sickle hooks and sickle jig heads the way to go for crappie?

I truly believe sickle hooks are the way to go. I hardly ever loose a fish when using them.

cant go wrong with the sickle hook....extremely sharp, wide gap, and pulls out of brush better than a regular jig hook! Just my opinion though!!!

I agree, been using them for about 6 months and think they're great, very few missed fish.

Been using them over 7yrs almost exclusively for jig tying. The sharpness of black nickel is what I love. Round hooks of same grade works equally great if not better. For jig tying, the sickle hooks have natural wider gap so that is why they are a no brainer due to conveniency. However, sickles have small barbs which lack of holding power. It's my opinion only, but I've been tying high end jigs for over 15 yrs only. Some other folks in here that have been crappie fishing for over 30yrs may have different perspective.

I agree with SMS.
I was a convert to the sickle hooks but, now I'm going back. Reason? The sickle hooks seem to have a tendancy to have a shorter lifetime before they snap off - yes, not bend but, break! Also, I find it much more difficult to remove the sickle hooks from the fishes mouth - I know - not a bad thing. It's a pain in the arse for me though. As far as tying goes, both are about the same to me. ALL MY JIGS COME OUT UGLY!!!!LOL.
Keep looking forward. That’s why windshields are larger than rear view mirrors.
