My brother and family will be heading to Port A Thursday for about 5 days of fishing. He will go out up to 15-20 miles in his boat. Question is has anybody been catching kings and other toothy critters lately within that range. He will fish for anything that bites and pulls! Thanks in advance! Craig

Craig, I am going to give them a whirl starting on Friday. If there are fish out there....I will find them. Kings, Smacks,Lings, Dorado, Snapper of any type will be on my hit list. Will give you a report when I get back midweek.

ReelDeal07, What website etc. do you look at to find gulf conditions forcasts and current buoy wave height etc. I use to have a good website on my old computer, but I lost it somehow. My boat is not big. It is a 22 foot Triton Seaflight. Ive been in waves higher than my T-top....... would not recommend it though!!!! Maybe, it won't be too bad, I'll be there through Monday. Might have to stick to the bay.....Arrrrh!!!! Will be back down there for a week the first part of August. __________________________ Notch

on the computer i use noaa.gov. there are also a few android apps, one is marine weather by bluefin and the other i use is wave watch which is where you can get current stats from the buoys you choose. Mine is also a small boat its only 20' and they are calling for 3-5 ft this weekend so far.

My brother (Notch) called me this evening and gave me a report. Way to windy and white caps as far as you could see with waves blasting over the end of the South jetty. They just relaxed and played tourist today. They will see what it looks like in the a.m. if to bad they will hit the bays and ship channel. I'll try to post a report tommorow.

Brother called with Saturday report. Still way to rough to try the kings and such. He anchored close to the North jetty in the channel trying for a red and only caught 2ft. sharks and big gafftop. Moved down the channel past the ferry and fished where the boat channel that goes to the airport and that housing addition meets the intercoastal. Caught more gafftop and some monster hardheads. They did latch on to something there that his wife faught for about 35 minutes using her Penn spinning real with 20 lb. line. He said it didn't fight like a ray so he has no idea what it was. Nearly spooled her 3 times but finaly it felt like it rapped around something and cut the line. They also fished by the light house but nothing there. Thats his story! Craig

I was out this past Wed but a little further out then 20 miles on a 12 hour trip with Deep Sea Headquarters. Forty of us limited out on Snapper in about 25-30 minutes. We all caught 5-10lb snapper. Moved a little swallower and started catching Kings, B-Liners and Red Snapper. Snapper were everywhere!!!! We caught 8 Kings but the bit was slow.

Love it when the fish wins some times. I was once fishing on Bob hall where I got spooled on 250yrds of 40lbs power pro on a dawia emcast with the drag locked down. Fish bumpped the bait and when I went to pick up the rod and set the hook, she never looked back!

How has anyone got out in this wind? Ha!!! That's funny. 6-7 footers with the odd 8-9 footer thrown in for good measure. No thanks. Not this white boy.

Brother called last night and wind and waves are unreal! He will just play tourist until heading home Tuesday. He will be going back first weekend in August. I will be with him for a few days then and plan another trip first part of Oct. when reds will be running and offshore fishing combined. Love that Oct. trip, best of both worlds!! Take care. Craig
