Wow, goldeneye's faces look a lot like a female trout. Does anyone else see the resemblance?... or is it just me?

I think it's actually Alosa chrysochloris, a close relative of the shads and herrings, common names fresh-water herring, skipjack or skipjack herring.
Great bait.
Helluva fight on a fly rod.
Were plentiful in Texoma and Red River, ran with the sand bass in the spring, but I think the stripers have gobbled up a good portion of them.
Looking at the anal fin, now I think it's a goldeneye after all.

No doubt about it. One of the coolest fish out there in my opinion (notice my screen name thumb)

Very, very oily and awesome cut bait.

It's a goldeye. And goldeyes and skipjacks are not the same thing. The dorsal fin on skipjacks are much further towards the head of the fish and skipjacks don't have the teeth that goldeyes do.

Was with my father-in-law last weekend, he caught one at Highpoint Sunday morning. Quickly became cut bait...
