Boatman......Hybrid and striper have the same tongue patch, genius. not always , Regardless of what it says on the TPWD website, most hybrid's toothpatches will almost touch, Most have just a fine line that separates, Stripers are look like the website show, two patches that are widely separate. MO

When we get lots of rains and they open the lavon gates is when you find out just how many hybrids are in Ray hub. I have caught and seen many 12lb to 15lb hybrids caught up there.
All we can do is help more please understand how to tell a hybrid. Most of the people a Hubard take fish home in a cooler not knowing they are braking the law. MY .02

Excuse me! "genius"
Striped Bass "from Texas Parks Web Site"
A Stripes distinct, several extend to tail B Body slender, less than 1/3 length C Has two, distinct tooth patches near the midline towards the back of the tongue
Hybrid Striped Bass Diagram Hybrid Striped Bass
Note: For hybrids, all characteristics should be considered in combination, as characteristics in individual fish may vary. A Stripes distinct, usually broken, several extend to tail B Body deep, more than 1/3 length C Has two tooth patches near the midline towards the back of the tongue. Tooth patches may be distinct or close together.
Notice the word "DISTINCT" in the striper- and the duel characteristic possible in hybrids. Additionally stripers are "slimmer" than hybrids which are shaped more like a football.
Thanks MO for setting this straight.
and hello again Bluewave Mike! nice to see you again.

I dont know how it happened! 19LB hybrid out of Hubbard? I cant find any DD fish... It is called fishing pressure. There was a time that Hubbard had lots of 10 - 20lb hybrids. They use to tear up a lot of tackle out there. I have not gotten on the big hybrids in a while. I remember years when 8-10 was common. Now it seems like they are just barely legal. There are a whole lot of people out there that think they are sand bass. I have seen it too often at the ramps where people think they have a bunch of ggod size sandies and they are really hybrids.

too many keep and release into grease I think there's you're problem.. I see so many guilty's bringing in fish off the banks, and keep ( EVERYTHING)!! Just sayin!! I think that more fish are taken out of the lakes around here by guided fishing trips. Even when they catch/release, a lot use live bait and the fish swallow the bait and die. I see hybrids floating on the surface every week on Lewisville. And, I have personally watched guides release fish that were bleeding from the gills. I am not banging on guides....just telling it like it is.....

Interesting you say that, I was fishing the gravel pits last night and saw a couple of guys using live shad and doing ok, but did release a under and it was floating 10 min later. I told them, and only for if it was my fish I would go get it and explain to GW if needed. It is what it is, but if the fish is going to die Im going to eat it.

Huh, probably alot more guiding these days = more fish harvested should = higher stockings, but does it?

Fishenrod,
That will be an expensive fish if you get caught by a GW. If a GW is going to let you keep an udersized fish just because it died then everyone would be killing their undersized fish.
