OK, I just got off the phone with a sales rep for one of the big online flyshops. He tells me that in it's price range, the Nautilus cant be beat, in every weight except the 7-8wt. He said that Nautilus doesnt really advertise this, but that the 7-8 weight have the same drag as their lighter reels, (I confirmed this with Nautilus today). They recommended that I look at one of their higher end reels for an 8wt. But they are above my budget. He said the Nautilus are his hottest selling reel, but he has more returns on the 7-8wt than any other reel. All due to drag issues. He then suggested the Lamson Guru for the 8wt. Funny how I came here looking for an 8wt reel, but so far have made up my mind to get the Nautilus for my 5 weight! Hahaha. So, any thoughts on this salesmans take on those two reels? If there are no objections, Im probably going to go ahead with the Lamson Guru. Going once. Going Twice.

I fish the Nautilus NV reels on my 7# TFO Pro, 8# TiCrX. 9# Pro, and 10# TiCrX; the 7 is fresh & saltwater. 8 < = saltwater rods. Smooth, smooth reel. Looking at the pink Nautilus FWX for my 2# Finesse.

Thank you, Mickfly

Hey Guys and Gals, TFO is introducing their new BVK fly reels and I will receive one to test tomorrow.
(Guess I had bettter make my usual disclaimer that I have ABSOLUTELY NO business or financial interest in TFO - just good friends and good folks)

The only information I have presently is by the grapevine and cost is in the $200.00+ range and may be comparable in quality to the high end Nautilus reels.

Looking forward to testing on fish.

WOW! I just ran into a guy on the lake that was fishing with a TFO LA with the carbon fiber disk drag! That thing looks like it could stop a small car!

I just hope they are better than the Prism machined aluminum. Notice, those are no longer available. There's a difference between US aluminum barstock and their barstock aluminum. I have firsthand knowledge of what I speak. That said, I will have to get my hands on one just to throw out a review.

OK, I lied in my previous post. After seeing the 375LA at the lake a couple of weeks ago, I just cant get it out of my mind! That drag is sick! I got a little money for my birthday and decided to try to find a used one. For $81 ( http://bit.ly/me7KgM ), I don't think I can go wrong smile Thanks Sexycarpenter,RexW and George Glazener for the recommend!!! Now to find a couple of spare spools!

I have 2 of the Orvis Mid-Arbors & for the money they are great reels (who would have ever thought that would be said of Orvis) btw, they changed them, the Mid Arbor has been updated (whatever that means & goes by another name for 2011)

You're welcome $81 is a hell of a deal. This s the statement I was looking for earlier:

"Plus TFO makes one of the best large arbor reels I have ever seen! The best part is it is half as much as the rest, and twice as smooth! This reel should seriously sell for $400 or more. The TFO 375 is the perfect size for an 8 or 9 weight line and plenty of backing. The MSRP is only $249.95 ($129.95 for an extra spool)."
