Are they still there, those ratty little super thin 14" guys running the shallows, like last year ?

Or have things turned to paradise ?

Anybody?

Are the stripers still there? Yes...plenty of them.

Are they still ratty, skinny, half-starved like they were a year ago? No way - they are fat, happy, strong, and sassy this year since Texoma is once again full of shad.

Talked to a guy this morning that busted a baitcaster's gears up (a good reel) while trying to land an eight-pound striper that he hooked while bass fishing.

Also heard a report of fish that were so thick/fat they didn't look like they had a head.

Bottom line is that the stripers are about as healthy as you'll ever see them on Texoma.

Now catching them, that's been another story this spring and early summer.

They are in huge schools, haven't scattered, and have so much bait to eat that patterns have been hard to get on and stay on. Spawn was late and summer topwater is just now starting to sporadically show up.

But when you're on 'em, you'll find out why Texoma is so incredible...

Next month I'm spending some quality time down there. I want to catch something. This summer has been pretty weak for me so far.
