I tow all the time too. I would like to believe the one time I need a tow maybe someone will be there to repay the favor... I fish Lewisville all the time and I usually end up towing boats 2-3 times every year. None of them fishermen all of them idiots ill prepared to be on the lake...

I will gladly tow any boat that I am capable to the nearest ramp. My boat is not that bug so one one ocassion I took a guy back to the ramp so he could find a larger boat to tow him in.

Last time I towed, a guy in the boat I was towing insisted on holding the tow rope. He held it all the way to the launch ramp. That shows me there just is not that much force necessary to tow a boat at slow speed. Even a big boat. Maybe not TWICE as big as mine smile.

Bingo right here. I've never had an engine problem by helping people. I never run over 1600 rpm's towing anyone either. Most times I put it in gear and that's it, troll in. If they want to get there quicker, then jump out and swim. If you cannot hold a rope and pull a boat, then maybe, you are tugging too hard. Done it with a Johnson 20's, 50's, 85's, 115's, a 120 and 3 times with a Mariner 150. I was starting to think maybe it was just cause it was Johnson, LOL.

I towed a guy one time he broke down in the middle of the ship channel in port a. i heard my girlfriend yell good day at a guy but he was yelling mayday. Looked at him and a big tanker was barreling down on him so i jumped on the steering wheel and throttle tied his boat to my cleet and pulled him in . the tanker was so close it started to suck us back in and then it passed and washed us out. The guy was white as a ghost and said the tanker missed him by 50'. If i wouldnt of towed him he would be dead today. so yes i will tow when possible

I towed a (approx) 18' Tri-hull with my Sea Doo last summer on Buchanan. Wasn't but 2-3 hundred yards, but I never entertained a second thought past helping them out.

Just three young guys out fishing.

Seems to me there is always some way to help out others.

Maybe a phone call; a ride; or, a short tow.

Just making an effort is what I think is most important.

good luck!

I think you hit the nail on the head Burnetbass. There is always a way to help. If I choose not to tow, that's my decision. Will I offer any help I can? Absoluely. Will I leave someone adrift in dangerous circumstances, absolutely not. Different situations call for different actions.

Needless to say they had to wait for someone else to tow them.

Yea, what he said. I'll tow to the nearest ramp, let them borrow my cell phone for a call etc. so they can have someone come get them, but dragging a boat all over the lake is asking too much.

I towed a guy last week at Cedar Creek. I did not think twice about it. I had read this post prior to and the whole time I was towing I was thinking about the post about blowing the motor while towing. I just kept it slow though.
