Anyone have advice for what's best to use for bait to attract the baitfish? I've heard bread or raw strips of bacon.... I plan on throwing it into the water tomorrow morning to gear up for fishing this weekend; any advice on bait or how long to leave it in is much appreciated!

it may seem strange, but i like to use and have good luck using a combination of a piece of bread rolled up into a ball, the really cheap crunchy cheetos and cutup piece of somekind of oily meat, like a hot dog or baloney. my trap is 24" x 8" x 8",which is small, but i generally get 10 to 15 fish at a time. i generally catch greenies and small buffalo,4 or 5",so that type of bait works for me.

I read a post somewhere that suggested a good combo was ramen noodles and a can of sardines in oil with a few holes punched in the can. I have tried it and it was super effective.....and cheap as hell. Caught 30 + perch first time and 80 + bullhead another. I use a home made cloverleaf trap.

There were so many bullhead in "the haul" that their spines were stabbing each other as they lay piled up. I'm not particularly squeamish, but it was a sad scene. For bullhead, I advise checking the trap every couple of hours to avoid the same situation. Mine was out all night....too long in that tank.

I have only used mine once. Put it in a creek with range cubes for about 12 hrs and had 15 bream in there the next morning.

I stuff bread and crackers into a coors light can. The silver bullet adds flash and the by poking only a few holes in the can, the bait disperses slowly. I just use a bait that I have with me, but one doesn't seem to be better than the other.

I have much better lick if the trap is not on the bottom. Laying it on top of a grass bed is ideal. Or on top of some brush.

I have also had luck with range cubes. And I often find dead small perch in my chum buckets when pulling them up, so I know they eat the soured maize/wheat and range cubes also.

Thanks for the help! Looks like I can pretty much raid my fridge and come up with a winning combination smile

Ive been buying a package of chicken gizzards and .99 hot dogs. I split them into 4s. I keep them zip locked and frozen and pull out a package when I need one. I also will throw in a piece of bread or 2. I catch 25+ on an overnight soak.

Well I went with what I could find, so the trap is out with a couple slices of bread and two strips of raw bacon that I cut up. Guess I'll see how it goes!
