If I owned 10 miles of the Brazos shore, I'd raise hell about the noise too. She can always plant magnetic mines in the river, set to only go off on air boats... LOL. I'd buy her out, if she'd sell for $1000.

Scott, remind me to NOT be on Texoma when that monster is out. I was at Lowes when something resembling that was being moved from one trailer to another... what a waste of money. Useless...at least in my humble opinion.

This reminds me of another river story

http://trib.com/news/opinion/editorial/article_08686576-3e96-5f21-9af8-37bb0a181e24.html

this should be a mater of the courts not legislation, they
have more important things going on right now.

It's more than the catfish would do.

David,
Don't go out on Texoma today. Nor'Easter was on the ramp warming up her engines. I got a few facts wrong. She makes 3000+ HP. 1500+ per motor. He would not give me exact numbers. (Classified) She holds the world record in her class at 177 mph. OMG They are having problems with the water intake scoops ripping off at speed. bang No live well or rod storage.

I think the Bogata/Miami route is probably more likely. You'd just about have to do some square grouper fishing to pay for the fuel on that monster.

Anyone read the Bill? Airboats are all that are prohibited on the John Graves Scenic Waterway. Only craft propelled by aircraft type propellers are restricted, not jet boats or other common shallow draft crafts. Airboats may be used for the bi-annual River inspection or by law enforcement.

http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/tlodocs/82R/billtext/pdf/SB00408F.pdf#navpanes=0

This was an amendment to the original Brazos River inspection bill first entered.

Why shouldn't those persons who actually live down and on the river, a number of which I have met, be able to enjoy the same peace and solitude afforded to those persons living within a city limit?

I havent known cities to have peace and solitude.

An occasional air boat that runs the river in front of a home for a brief moment is not really noise pollution. If they camped out in the middle of the river and reved up their engines all day long that would be different.

Should we restrict hunting and shooting sports because they make noise as well?

If you buy river property there are just some things you have to deal with. They include flooding, duck hunters, anglers, and even boating.

I'm with you 100% on this thought process. I'm all about private property rights, but that means we don't get to restrict what others do OFF our property. This is the exact reason that I think about 1 in 5 cans of air freshener labeled "Country" should smell like a dead skunk that a buzzard puked on.

Restricting who can use the public waterway near your property is just as bad as moving in next door to a long-established feedlot and then complaining about the smell. Unfortunately for the rest of us, cash talks and the rest of us walk, or paddle, as the case may be.

I wonder how many really large speakers and batteries you could pack into a kayak or canoe? The soundtrack I would suggest would be a squadron of P-51 Mustangs taking off, their Allison V-12 engines at full throttle.

"But officer, it isn't an airboat. We're paddling it and listening to our favorite song."

This would work.

Of course I'm always for a good rendition of Ride of the Valkyries too.

My house sits in the landing pattern for a small private airstrip. They fly over my house low enough I could drop them with my 12GA. Landing is not much noise. Take off is just as loud as an airboat. So I guess I could make the same case and demand to ban aircraft over my property. But, I like airplanes so I just wave at the pilot as they go over.

Ms. Walton may of made one miscalculation. When one moves to the country, it is best not to piss off the local boys and take away their living. They have ways of dealing with foreigners!

Negative, Ghost Rider, the pattern is full.

I suppose once it gets up on plane it would skip over the shallow spots. smile
