Went out to my favorite little spot on Canyon Lake today. Me and my friend were both throwing White spinnerbaits around weeds and wooded cover wading about two feet in.

Both of us hooked up and two nice bass right as the sun was going down. Snapped pictures and threw um back. Hooked up on another but he got off right before the net

but here's the funny part. I felt a hit and set the hook hard. Reeled in what I thought was a little bass but turned out to be a HUGE bluegill Perch. It was weird.

Anyone else ever catch something they weren't targeting at all?

I hate taking catfish off the hook

Happens all the time, but...

Might of been a redbreast or green sunfish though. Bluegills have smaller mouths and it's hard for them to get their mouth around a big spinnerbait hook.

I've caught some big redbreast sunnies off of a floating rapala, thinking I was throwing to some bass!

I have also caught catfish throwing spinners and swimbaits...

I have caught catifsh on Spinner baits, Rouges, WackyWorms, Crankbais.. they are no fun to unhook! Watched my dad pull in a nice Crappie one time on a wacky worm and I have caught a crappie or 2 on a fluke

Catfish on a crankbait just last week.

Yep caught 2 big drum flipping a jig last just weekend. Also I've caught alot of catfish on everything from soft plastics to top waters biggest was a 17lb flathead on a crankbait. Probally the strangest was about a 4 inch bream on a big 1/2 ounce mop jig

The strangest I caught was this spring while freeline trolling a sassy shad in 3ft of water for stripers. A 15-16lb carp!!! Thought I had a good striper on for awhile.

i fish alot though so the more you're on the water the more it will happen.

catfish,goo,buffalo,sandies,crappie,brim,sac o lat , choupiquex, you name it ive caught it bass fishing,

this guy hit a 1/2 oz buzzbait!! he had the twin trail in his mouth not the hook and i had to shake him off of it lol

Back in the late 70s I was fishing for crappie in the big trees in Tom Creek with chrome slab sided spoons. Thought I had hung a limb on the bottom. Turns out to be a walleye. I was startled to see those big irredescent eyes as it came to the surface. Was about 2# sure tasted good. Didn't have a camera back then. Yeah it was a long time ago and no walleye left that I can tell. State stocked them in the lakes early days. Found a few old reports.

Just hooked a baby tilapia on a Rapala DT 10 yesterday. The bait was bigger than the fish. It happens

I caught bass when fishing for catfish with night crawlers.
Caught a owl one time and a blue heron on yo yos (when they were legal)
Caught a chihuahua on a night crawler when fishing for cat fish. The little guy grabbed the treble hook when it was resting on the dock, but the vet got the hook out.

My 3 strangest were:
A 5 lb. bass on chicken liver (twice on the same day)
A 7.5 inch sunnie on a top water bass lure
And a 4 ft. American Eel on chicken liver
