So what is your preference when bank fishing at night

keep it dark
electric lantern (fluorescent)
spot light
propane or old fashioned white gas lantern?

I am thinking of going back to 2-3 white gas lanterns.

propane light, usually set it about 4 feet from us to keep the bugs over by it and not us, also have a few headlamps for when that is not practical, like when we hike to a location

Propane lanterns with tinfoil on half to cut down on glare on the side we are sitting on. I always have my daily carry Surefire E1L Outdoorsman that can be clipped on my ball cap. We also all wear Energizer 50 Lumen headlamps that have a red light as well. We picked those up at Target for 75% off which made them 6.99 each.

I like it dark, using headlamps only when necessary.

I like enough light to see by, but not so much that it's lit up like a campsite! A small fire is great but if I'm where I can't build a fire I use an old railroad lantern. I fill it with that tiki torch citronella stuff in the summer. Sit it on a bucket upwind and it helps keep the skeeters at bay.

I found a clip-on light for my cap that's great. Very light weight and very bright for it's size. The name on it is "Cyclops".I also carry a maglite on my side for investigating any odd movement on the ground or for landing an old big'un!

And chem lights for the rod tips and/or attracting fish!

The old white gas double mantle Coleman lanterns cannot be beaten. Two of those and you are good to go all night long.

+10 If you dont have any tinfoil, you can use a coke or BEER can to cover the sides. It fits just dandy... coincidence, I think not... Head lamp for the noggin, and glo sticks for my bobbers or rod tips. I usually dont have a prob. with bugs if the lantern is just a few feet from me, as long as the light is pointed toward the water and not myself.
