I recall reading somewhere that either Rains County or Wood County is not nice to folks with weekend homes at Fork (when it comes to taxes) and I wanted to know if anyone had suggestions on whether its better to buy in Rains or Wood County.

Any other issues I should be considering?

Anyone have anything for sale that I may be interested. Needs to be waterfront. Thanks.

tax records on property are public , you can look up the property when you find a place

Definitely Wood County. Exemptions are better as well when you get older as well.

This year our taxes went down ??????? I'm in Rains Co.
Actually they're both about the same, my parents have a place on Lake Winnsboro(wood co.)mine's on Fork(rains co.).
The advantage Wood has over Rains IMO.. is the size of the county, much larger population. Rains is like the second smallest county in TX if I remember correctly.
It's all relative, more people more revenue.

You wanting to build a house or buy one readymade ?

Thanks for the responses. Looking for readymade. Just a simple fishing lodge for boys weekends.

Know of anything?

My wife is a great realtor here on Fork. Let me know what you're looking for and she can find it.

How much you looking to spend on a place? Is $170M-175M for 3 BR log cabin, 1 acre, on Little Caney Creek in your budget?
