I believe the San Juan shuffle is illegal because it stirs up too much river bottom debris, aka insects. Learn to walk/wade normally.

The shuffle is a bunch of bs, its unfair, and it destroys colonies of bugs. I saw people doing it at taneycomo this spring....just plain stupid. Its not even fun to fish under ur feet.

In New Mexico, they station wardens with binoculars up on the bluffs on the north side of the San Juan and will ticket you if they catch you doing it. That said, I saw a guy doing it with great success when I was there a few years ago, fishing with a guide. I think if the guide had been there alone, that perpetrator would have been in danger.

I am leaving for the San Juan river in 14 days and booked my trip with Aztec Anglers...I can't wait! This will be my first trip up there as well.
