My friend lives and die on the Rapala floating minnow. He'll throw it whenever, wherever, and has decent success.

Just wondering where ya'll throw these type of lures. When and why you'd throw them rather then another type or lure, etc...

Thanks, Kevin.

I have had great results from tossing the Rapala floaters right next to standing timber in the creek channels and let them sit till your itchin to move it but just a small twitch rings the dinner bell.

I like the rogues also especially in 3-6ft of water.

They are still a great bait. I don't throw it enough.

I always liked those floating minnows. The biggest problem I have with them is casting distance. Most of the ones that I have had were really light, and i can not cast them far enough. We used to catch a lot on those lures fishing in creeks by my parents house.

I love the Floating Minnow myself. I fish a lot of clear water so I fish it when conditions are tough. High barometric pressure, bright sun, heavy fished waters, etc. If I think a topwater presentation should be my best bet but my first pic for a topwater isn't catching them, I pull out a Rap FO. I always can count on it for bites at least and normally can squeek out my limit.

I like the Rap FOs more than any other minnow because it's silent and not a lot of people throw them any more. In clear water, especially in tough conditions, that silent minnow acting stressed will make them rise like few other baits will. A straight tailed worm and Rapala FO will always be very close to the top of the list for me in water that has at least 3' visibility. I like to throw the Raps on spinning tackle. I get longer more accurate cast that way.

I used to keep one tied on until the sun got high. I'd throw it paralel to grass lines and in shallow, shady spots. I don't know why for the life of me I don't have a single one now.

I have a couple on hand, but I don't really throw them as often as I should.

Good point, as should I, and they are much easier to throw on spinning tackle..

Ive thrown em a few times but dont have alot of confidence in them compared to the torpedo, so If the conditions are right, Ill be throwing the torpedo.

Spinning tackle is a must for Rapala Originals, unless you are using the very large sizes. They are very light and I don't think they have any weighting system.

Do yall tie a Rapala or other loop knot, or just put a split ring on it?

I had a favorite FO 9 that I had in the Gold color that eventually broke right in the middle of it. Still landed the fish who broke it (about a 4lber) with both trebles in it's mouth. They don't have a weight transfer system, at least the one that broke didn't. Pretty much just a balsa body with a hook hanger system. These things catch just about all species of fish though. I caught a 10lb hybrid (maybe stripped bass. I don't know a lot about that genus family) on one along with a few channel and flathead cats. Plenty of drums. Sunfish and crappie of course. And plenty of LMBs, SMBs, spots and Guads. My biggest on this lure was a post spawn 7lber. Love that Floating Rap Minnow!
