I have a boat, but here lately I have been fishing from the bank more so than the boat. These winds have kept me out of the boat. Maybe it will die down some and I will be able to fish my good brushpiles. gps coords and I'll go check them for you

Buddy, I've had snakes just crawl up in my boat. It lays low against that watter and they just mannage to get in if you're near the brush. Just beat em to death with an oar/closest thing you got.
I like both honestly. When I'm in a boat I feel compelled to go look for a new spot every time it slows down.
On land I just sit back and drink a beer.

Lol, if you're worried about snakes, you should DEFINATELY worry more on bigger packs of coyotes. Around my local creek me and my buddy fish they normally run about 8-12 deep and aren't scared to get within 20 yards of ya'. Just saying, I love seeing water snakes, but I hate them furry critters. I REFUSE to be puppy food. Last time I checked, my name was NOT Kibbles n' Bits.
You know the old saying
If it floats, flys, or f___s it is always cheaper to rent!
You have to decide which is more important.

Well, I've had two boats in my lifetime. Both purchased used...the first lasted two whole weeks before the motor froze up. The 2nd lasted almost 6 months. No more gas powered boats. What I'm looking for now is a small, light fiberglass boat with an electric trolling motor.

I bought a boat new in 1973 with a 50 hp Evinrude. I still use it every chance I get, which is not often since my family and doctors do not like for me to go by myself.
With care a boat and motor will last forever. Motors burn out because of improper oil mixture or bad impellers, but mostly because they are operated at too high rpms.
Electric motors have to be taken care of too. If you cannot take care of an outboard you will not have good luck with an electric either.
Fishing from the bank is a mighty poor substitute for fishing from a boat.

I would much rather have a boat to be able to fish more water, but it is convenient hitting a pond or two when I have an hour or two to waste.

Would definitely prefer a boat, but I'm content without one. There are some real advantages to bank fishing so I can't complain too much.

I would prefer a boat, but the expense is too prohitative. I have a lot of fun on the bank, but would prefer to be out on the water.

I'd prefer a boat and I'm going to get a used one sometime this year but man I tell you what, has anyone looked at the prices of used boats? It's an outrage what some people think their stupid ugly boat is worth in todays dollars. I have seen 30 year old boats for 2500.00 and it needed work to get into the water.

I agree, but after the first boat motor carped out, I put a trolling motor on it and used it for several years with no trouble at all. Then I sold it on here and bought mistake number 2. Wish I still had that boat with just the TM on it.

My first kayak cost me $100. My second trip out I went downstream of the tubing area and found a ciggarette dry box w/ $60 in it so it sorta cost me $40...lol. It was by no means top of the line but it got me on the water and I always felt safe. The times I did feel a little iffy would have been just as bad or worse in a big boat. You have all sorta control in a kayak. I would say 70% of the time I just use my yak to get to a sand bar or island to fish. The other 30% I actually fish from it. Its just how I prefer to do things. I do realize a yak is not possible or practical for everyone though.

As a bank fisherman myself, having a boat would be nice but with patience and knowledge of the area you are fishing, and even fishing from spots on the bank that look "bassy" for bass, or off of points with rocks for catfish, you could catch big fish. As my tag line at the bottom says...
You don't always need a boat.. But gosh darn it, sure helps!

I've got a canoe and an 18' Champion bass boat, but it's much simpler to run down to the creek 10 minutes from my house after work than loading the boat up and driving an hour away. I'm usually a bank fisherman on the weekdays and a boat fisherman on the weekends. I have just as much fun on the bank as I do the boat! I just hate sitting on the bank looking at a particularly inviting spot just out of reach of my cast... gotta get the boat or canoe out and get out there!!!

[quote=roachdaddy] I just find it more relaxing. Poles in the water, beer in hand, fire going, sitting in a chair.
Best part is when we catch a few, we filet'em right there and eat. Doesn't get much fresher than that.
Man that sounds like what a cpl friends an i have been doing for yrs. I keep a "cook out" box in my truck all winter when i fish the most. Cold wind an some lemon pepper catfish, bush's beans, and the beer doesn't get hot. My buddy Jim and his wife are best i know of with an iron skillet.
"good luck to all,on or off the water." S-n-W may help you're odd's.
