I saw the post on the Memorial day Brazos trip below PK and was just wondering what is a good length fly rod to use in that area?

That would probably depend on if you were wading, fishing from a self propelled watercraft, or boat, and what species you were planning on chasing.

Anything length will do. The river is wide open below PK. You don't have to worry about overhanging trees.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but are you asking more about the appropriate length of rod or the best weight rod for that kind of fishing?

what rods do you have ?

Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

Anything goes on the Brazos. I have used everything from a custom made Pearow three weight, about eight feet long, to a nine weight spey rod about thirteen feet long (you should have seen that debacle!!!) For warmwater species, I usually opt for my Sage SMB just because I like to cast it, and it handles the wind very well. If you are up near the dam banging out long casts for sandies and stripers, you might want a nine foot eight or nine weight. Stocker trout in the riffles call for a one, two, or three, four, or five weight. Generally, you fish with what you have....

I wade, 9' is what I use because, when chest deep ,That extea above water helps me cast better.

I almost always use a 5/6wt in 8' length.
