What's that in the water? At least the boat looks OK!

This happened this morning (11am) when I was heading home for the day. I felt sorry for the guy. Nobody in the area had chain or pull rope to get him out. Another reason to have a 4wd. IF you had 4wd, he could have got out. He slipped right pass the ramp in the water and was spinning in the mud/vegetation.

I used to fish Millwood lake and the steep ramp at Yarbough Landing claimed a lot of vehicles. Buddy & I would come in about n00n to eat and rest up and we watch a lot of mistakes at the ramp. Saw one where the guy was loading the boat and the wife/girlfriend was backing the trailer. She must have freaked out cause before it was over the Bronco was in about 7' water at the rear, water was up to the top of the rear window. A second event involved a couple that did not have a trailer just a old truck that they backed into the lake far enough to slid the boat in from the lake. She must not have ever helped load the boat caused when he finally got her to stop backing up, her behind was wet and she was sitting in the seat of the truck. We were glad no one got hurt but it sure was funny.

Looks like an algae bloom or something on that ramp. Look at the color of the water. I never back down to where my tires are in the water. The algae is too slick for me.

Yeah, be sure and take a look at ramps before you back down on them during the heat of the summer. Algae builds up on some of them, and those of you with 2WD can get in a bind if you are not careful.
Warm water algae ramps coupled with lower water levels requiring you to back down farther on ramps can spell disaster...just inspect the ramp before you back down...especially if it is a new ramp that you don't launch very often on.

Definetly back down slowly and not hastily so if the ramp is slick you can stop. And with all those boats around no one had a rope? Come on. I have several ropes in my boat that would have been good enough for this job.
