That's OK water boy.
Us locals were using surfboards long before the kayakers were using kayaks to cross the ICW.
Neumie comes across as a know it all and likes to roam several boards kinda like you described "a policeman".
Deal is Neumie doesn't have an I-Net Badge and doesn't own his own "Fishing Forum".
water boy, obviously you were talking about about dad's and anglers using common sense.
That was plain enough for all of us to see.

It doesn't seem like Neumie was acting like a "know it all" I think he was just trying to let them know it can be dangerous.

I agree, doesn't sound like he was trying to be a know it all...I certainly understand what both of you guys are saying. Being a local myself I've grown up fishing there & still do, I used to spearfish that area & the jetties as well. Point here I think is, you never know the experience levels of someone you're giving advice to on a forum. You're right about the Fina dock being a good spot, caught many a limit of redfish, trout, & sheephead there. Used to be alot better though when the place was still up & running & the lights were on, used to have a key to the gate & permission to go back in the day. After I lost permission when they were shutting down, I still made many a trip there going over or around the fence. You ever tried running from a game warden with a fishing pole & a cooler FULL of fish lol! Anyway, I still go but in my boat. All that changed after "Homeland Security" passed. Personally I would not recommend a kayacker crossing the ship channel especially on a weekend unless you knew who you were talking to. Anyway, nuff of that. I would suggest also that you look at Sailboat Alley, it's a nice area to kayak & can be pretty productive at times. If you're going early in the morning on a high tide, I would strongly recommend you hit the flats behind Brown & Root. You can easily park there & put your kayak in, rig up with a weedless gold spoon unless you're using live shrimp. Start paddling & keep within 50 to 75 yrds from shore usually, try & be as quiet as possible & watch for tails. If you find a school tailing it shouldn't take long for limits or near limits as long as you don't spook them out. Sometimes you have to go a ways to find them though but you never know. If fishing a low or outgoing tide there, go all the way to the point. There are some good guts at the end where the reds will stack up busting mullet coming off of the flats. I've caught many a limit out there & used to never tell anybody but there's more & more people there every year so it's not like it's a big secret. If you do catch that spot on an outgoing tide, put your bait in any of those guts & be ready! Hope this helps & good luck!

Oh, you can go to Google maps if you wanna check out that area I'm talking about. It's called Harbor Island, (to the right before the ferry coming from Aransas Pass). Can also google up Sailboat Alley.

Yeh he caught me lol! He checked all my fish & let me go but threatened me with jail if he caught me out there again. I was back there the next weekend lol. That was back in my younger days though & had a different attitude then......that game warden was a big dude, i still don't see how he made it out of his boat, over the bulk head, & ran me down before I made it back to my truck lol!

Tried to google Brown and Root and got something over by Ingleside. Then tried Sailboat Alley and was taken to another state. Any tips in where these might be, like GPS coordinates? I have been going out to the Pink Shack Lakes and Shamrock cove. Can usually find a few flounder to stab and a red or two but not much. Kinda limited in that I'm kayaking and I only get to go for a week vacation a year but I'll paddle a few hours for good bay fishing. Thnx fo the help in advance.

Click on the "Google Map" link in my first post. B&R can be accessed by a few launches including the "Sailboat Chnl" launch on the map.
Ooops, this post may make it seem like I'm a "know it all". I may regret posting this now.

If you still need some help finding the areas that we're talking about I can dig out my fishing maps & get you some GPS coordinates. (At work now so will have to wait till I get home). That area that I'm talking about behind Harbor Island is a pretty broad area to try & pinpoint an exact location. It's a pretty long stretch of turtle grass flats & oyster reefs, and there's really no way of knowing where they're gonna be. My bay boat won't make it back there, so what I normally do is drive that shoreline & glass the edge of the flats until I find tails. You'll find mullet tailing too so you can expect false alarms. I've learned that on a high tide that first 1 to 1 1/2 hrs of daylight is the best, & I've never thrown anything at them other than a weedless gold spoon. Yeh you can drive all the way to the point but use caution, especially after a good rain. Take it from me, it suuucks getting stuck out there lol! When conditions are right, you don't need a 4 wheel drive to get there just stay out of any mud holes you come across & you'll be fine as long as you have a little bit of clearance on your vehicle. I've only gotten stuck out there because I just HAD to go through the bad spots to entertain myself. Anyway, if you decide to go that route let me know. PM me & I can give you more details & coordinates on the few areas to watch out for if driving. Right now it's not bad out there but that could/will change with the weather. Sailboat Alley is a little easier to access but neither spot is that hard to get too. There's always Kayakers out there but normally not TOO many.

Well we got back this evening from our weekend at Aransas Pass and all in all we had a really good time. We kayaked around the LHL area and though we did not catch a single fish inside those flats, we caught a lot of fish where the flats meet the boat channel. Lots of small reds, ladyfish, and trout, only had one keeper trout out of probably 50+ fish caught. We will explore new areas next time we go down, but all in all the trip was a blast and my son had a great time kayaking.

There are some very productive areas and reefs to kayak and wade that are not listed or charted on maps.
