Well first time to post something on catching, I know of one person on here that fishes in NM, maybe more can use this. Crappie fishing at Conchas this Memorial Day weekend. The lake is very low, like 20-25' low. The water temp is about 65, we caught 15 nice crappie. Mostly males, getting black, the females I did catch had egg sacks but looked like a few weeks off from spawning. They were a little scattered around, I found one area that had some schooled up crappie. Pretty much keep looking around, tree to tree, rocky area to rocky area. We caught a 25" walleye as well. We caught tons of smallmouth bass up to 2#s. They are spawning and they are very aggressive, they were hitting our 2" crappie jigs and tubes.
Lots of fun right now. Crappie good, smallmouth great.

It has been a couple of years for Ute.

My brother lost a huge slab side crappie, the next two weeks they should shuffle into the brush and cover and be thick. The cold spring has really delayed the spawn, just now 65 degrees.

Are they in the area up around big island?? I fished that lake a bunch as a youngster in the 50's & 60's & remember catching tons of nice crappie.
I sure miss Conchas & Ute!!
A bad day on the lake is much better than a good day at work!

I heard, really stinks. This picture is old and the lake is really low. But this is the general area I believe, you could wade out to the island from shore. Good luck.

Good luck. The island by the arrow in your picture I think could be Rattlesnake Island judging from the park & North dock area. Big Island is up near to where the Canadian comes in.
