Merc will be out with a new version soon and that will be the one everyone will have to have then. Most want the newest and baddest and that is what companies market to us.

Trust me Guys, when you get over 50 years of age the 2mph difference you talk about won't even matter anymore to ya'. After you start counting the money you saved by not buying oil or very much gas, you won't care. Besides, just 2mph faster, heck you can still see where he going! The boat wake is still there. lol

You can't suppress the future, one day all outboard engines will be 4-strokes. I applaud Yamaha for their commitment to accelerate the markets use of lower emission engines with better, or comparable performance numbers to a conventional 2-stroke engine. It's here boys, get use to it, it ain't going away.. I like the fact of not buying $25.00 a gallon oil mix.
+ 1 on that the SHO will be my next motor love my Series 2 Yamaha but hate the fuel and oil cost.

I have a SHO and love it. No problems with it at all.
My father has always been a Mercury person, but after I got my SHO he said that his next motor will be a SHO as well.

Saw a Skeeter with a FO SHO BLOW getting towed in a couple weeks ago. They say the brake in period means everything.

I"ll have an opinion in a week or two. Getting a new SHO any day now. The few people I know that have them..no issues and luv them. I've had two HPDI's and had no issues, so I am expecting the same going forward. I also go verbatem to manufactures recogmendations on breakin and maintenence and I have yet to pop a powerhead.

Duck I lost 3 mph when I switched from my Yamaha to my Honda 4 stroke. BUT, I gained most of it back by adjusting my prop. PLUS, I don't have to buy the Oil every trip AND I improved my fuel economy by 2.5 times. Like Duck says speed is not everything. And I like it when I pass guys at the gas station.

How many gallons of oil does it take to pay for that first new powerhead when it's out of warranty?

Just got back from three and a half days at O H Ivie running a 225 Pro XS on my Alpha 211 in all kinds of heat & wind. Only burned 7.7 gallons!
