We are great at voicing opinions from the keyboard..... Not so great when it comes to taking action.
From the Dallas Morning News Ray Sasser Public Meeting Attracts Little Interest
Veteran Texas Parks and Wildlife Department fisheries biologist Bruce Hysmith said hes disappointed with the poor response to a public scoping meeting that he called to talk about the potential problem that bass tournaments are causing for the fish at Amon Carter Lake. Seven anglers attended the meeting, and three others called Hysmith to voice their opinions. Five favored a slot limit to protect the mid-sized bass at the 1,848-acre Montague County lake. I have never fished Amon Carter but what a shame all these posts. I cant be leave only seven anglers showed up!! When they were talking about controlling the moss and pads in lake Weatherford we had a packed club house 45 more fisherman. The message Amon Carter fisherman sent TPW DO WHAT YOU WANT TO WE DON'T CARE!! Don't care? I would have to disagree. I fish the lake all the time, but I live about an hour to an hour and a half away from it. What did they do to get the word out about this "meeting"? It was never on my local news here in Wichita Falls. Bowie (where Amon Carter is located) is a rather small town. I can almost promise you that that lake gets more fisherman from outside of Bowie city limits than actual locals. So again... I ask what did the TPWD Dept do to get the word out? Word of mouth? In my opinion with a topic as serious as a implementing a slot limit, or banning tournament fishing all together on any lake, would probably constitute media coverage at least within a 60 mile radius. Now if the TPWD did notify the media, maybe I missed it. But it seemed to have caught most of us by surprise.

I understand summer time heat increases mortality rates . Why hasnt the boating industry came up with temp control livewell systems. We are already paying tons for the rigs . How much more could it really be.

they need to come up with something in the tournament trails to where you can catch your fish, oficially weigh it somehow, and let it go. that would up the survival rate by quite a bit. i understand tournaments, but its sad to see a bunch of nice fish dead after a huge tournament on a lake

This is a topic that will start a whole lot of fights. The avg tourny angler just does not want to hear it though the evidence is right in our faces all the time and just plain common sense.
Trust me though, you do not want to even argue this point around here or to the avg tourny angler because they will get very upset and the mudslinging will begin.
I thought you were a tournament angler? If so what do you do different if anything than the rest of us to take care of your fish? Mark, you should know better than anyone that NOT ALL tournament anglers take care of their fish. Just watch the Bassmasters on TV and see how many of them sling them in the boat, then watch them flop on the carpet while they fist pump and spit.
Taking 5 to the weigh-in occurs when opportunity meets successful execution of one's preparation.

However, tournament guys seem to really like those pictures at the end of the tournament where they can hold up their big fish in the stage.

that doesnt always work. I have seen a 7.11 (over 24") fish wieghed in at fork. Also heard about a 5.xx weighed in on Fork (over in mediabass by Capp).. I have caught and released a few fish that were under 24" that were 9+ pounds. My stepdad has caught numerous 23" fish that were 10+ pounds...
the length deal doesnt work accurately. People just need to learn how proper fish care if there is a high mortality.
Personally, i think the whole deal on this lake is being blown our of proportion. How often have they stocked the lake? How many folks do you think actually fish off the bank and throw everything back? this is the country, people EAT what they catch to help ease finances.

I had to dig deep on the TPWD website to find this. They announced the meeting on May 10, 2011. Nine days doesn't seem like much to get the word out. Any reason the TPWD couldn't use the TFF to inform the public? http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/newsmedia/re...p;nrsearch=amon
Keep it wet.

+1 and why did the Elite guys not get asked back to Falcon? I mean they did break almost every record in fishing including killing a ton of fish. It happens yes we try not to but it when the water warms up they are hard to keep alive and yes alot die after everyone is gone home after a tourney.
Pretty sure the Elites have not been back to Falcon because Zapata COC will not pony up the dough.
Pony up dough for what? I thought these tournaments are a life-saver for the local economy. When the slot was removed from Ray Roberts the tournaments were going to be a great big boost. I checked with the clerk at Pilot Point Texaco and they say "not so much". Same thing at Sonic and Golden Chick. Beer Barn went under.

There are only a few small club tourneys on Amon Carter,i really don't see why this lake was singled out to begin with.

There are only a few small club tourneys on Amon Carter,i really don't see why this lake was singled out to begin with. I would say it was possibly instigated by the land owners around the lake. I of course have no proof of that, but that's what I think. You have a fairly small lake in an unassuming area that is probably getting more pressure today than ever before. Some land owners (specifically on the waters edge) tend to get a bit territorial at times (on any lake)... And now their hidden gem isn't so hidden anymore. So basically they have to share more now than ever before. So I can see that being the issue. What else could it be? There have been no studies on the lake that I'm aware of. I know I have fished it for quite some time and have never seen a massive fish kill. So to me that only leaves complaints made by the folks who live on or near the lake. I may be way off here.. I mean no disrespect to anybody, especially the land owners. I'm just going through the process of elimination. On a side note to Lannie... I had a chance to meet Byron a few weeks ago when your club was having a tourney out there. He's a talker and a good dude.

The landowners are putting it to us yall! Similar things are going to take place on Lake Worth soon... the land owners are all banding together and voting to make everything north of 199 NO WAKE ONLY and trying to place a no motor restriction on the entire river and nature center. Just so happens one of the land owners leading the way for this is in the Kayak rental business....
