It's June now, and the white bass run in the Guad is long gone. So, I'll ask again. Did anyone catch any whites on the Guad this year? Upstream at the rapids? In three years now, I have never seen so few reports on the white bass run at the Guad. I don't know if I saw any. I'm just curious at this point. smile

I went twice in March and didnt catch anything. Went from cranes mill all the way to the rapids using Shad raps and live minnows. Im still confused what happened. I just assumed I was either too late or too early...

Caught fish but very few up the river.
Best fishing for me was in the North coves.
Wind limited how/where I could fish although.

March should have been right on the money. Maybe there was no run?

Same here, I've never seen it as bad as it was, and the only thing that I can think of is the dry conditions of a the last couple years back when the river just about quit flowing, and the whites just headed back to their spawning grounds in the main lake on wind blown points and up in the coves and creeks where they could find current.

That had to have been confusing for the fish when they went up river to spawn and found no swift water to spawn, so that had to have hurt the numbers of eggs and fry that survived.

Whether that's what happened or not, the drought definately took a toll on the spawn, and probably for several years to come.

Beginning in early February until mid March and several times per week, I fished from the mouth of the river all the way to the rapids, and most points in between. By far, this was the least productive year for me in the last 10 years. Just couldn't consistently find the whites anywhere in the river. I agree with Fish Inspector. However, this same time period was very good for the stripers surfacing early mornings out of deep water toward the dam.

I went once this year on March 18 with three caught and released. We launched off Rebecca Creek boat ramp and went to the last set of Cyprus Trees and posted up with minnows. I caught one on the first cast and she looked pretty good; I would say 11". I caught one more white bass and I also caught one Guadalupe Bass. I always love catching our state fish.

I caught around a dozen each time i when out trolling with the pearl fat free shad in the back of the cove between canyon park and jacobs creek park....never went up river due to the low river flow meaning low oxygen levels....

I fished that same cove you speak of on the last weekend of March. Caught a bunch of stripers in the early morning on small grubs. Nothing really of size, no sandies/whites. Really confused me cuz I was fishing the same cove that sent me home with a cooler full of whites last year. This prolonged drought weve had the past few years is really taking a toll on our rivers. Upstream reminded me of a dried up creek

Whitebass only live about three to five years so if you string together enough drought years you can pretty well reduce their population to near zero. The stripers are re-stocked often so their numbers are not affected by low water levels like the other fishes. These things are cyclic and will most likely recover just fine when we get into a wet period.

There was a great spawning run of whites last year on Canyon with all the rain. Or at least appeared to be.
