East Texas is no place to spend the summer frown !

Does anyone have any suggestions/experience for/with an inexpensive, nice, quiet, no-frills except trout fishing smile , RV park in SW Colorado or elewhere in the Rockies? Mrs. Oldgringo and I don't want to go into summer hibernation in these parts - no more. mad

We'd appreciate y'all's input.

Thanks, Ron. One of our RV neighbors at Lake Fork suggested South Fork and we'll check into their monthly rates.

We're past the time for any interest in swimming pools, kid's activities and all of the other amenities except CATV and internet service.

Can you say "peace and quiet with cool weather"?

Addendum:

Does the Chatterbait go above or below the nymph?

Thanks, Ron.

Seriously, does anyone other than RonH have any experience in/with SW Colorado Rv parks?

Dolores, Co near Durango is off the beaten path and it has excellent trout fishing and good cafes near by. There is an RV park or two there as well as an excellent German Food restaurant.

We went here a few years ago. http://www.coloradodirectory.com/platoro/

I'm pretty sure they have an RV park. Friend of mine has an aunt and uncle that spend the summer up there every year in their motor home. You have trout fishing access at Platoro Reservoir, the Conejos River, and a couple of smaller lakes up in the moutains. Really pretty place in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks everybody. We've found a highly referred RV spot in Lake City, CO for the summer.

If anyone else is planning going to the high country this summer, I suggest you get busy with the reservation process NOW.

I camped in the San Juan National Forest several years ago. We popped a tent but several others had RVs. Has miles and miles of rivers to fish with plenty of other sites and activities.

Keep in mind that just because your going north doesn't mean cooler weather. When we were there the tempertures were hotter in Colorado than Texas. We (read wife put her foot down) ended up cutting our relativly inexpensive camping trip short and checked into a (over priced) hotel in Telluride. That town is expensive. If they could charge for the air you breathe they would.

For fishing info I went to Walmart to buy my out of State fishing License. The guy at the counter help me with all the "stuff" I would need. Fly fishing is a blast once you get the knack for it. The hardest part is not busting your butt in the river. The rocks are slippery and current is fierce.

Whatever you do, do not go to Cebolla Creek. I never catch more than 50, on dry flies. Also never got to North Clear Creek, the trout are usually never smaller than 16-18". A fun trip would be to rent a jeep, and try and find Pole creek, nice cuts, beautiful scenery. Been fishing that part of that world since 1985. Lake City, Creede, South Fork all GREAT places to stay. If you get there early in the season, float the Rio Grande, or drive down to the San Juan for some monster trout!! See you there this summer. Trout Bum
