How many of you guys make your own crankbaits and plastics and what kind of preferences you have. I have been looking into it alot lately and theres so many options out there. I'm tired of buying baits and nevere using them this i believe would help with that. Just tell me how you prefer to do it and what generally works and where to get it. Show some pics to.

Like anything you craft there is a learning curve. You have start up costs to get your feet wet and there is always one more mold or color to buy when making plastic baits. Have you ever tried an airbrush? Not as easy as it looks so be prepared for some practice. As far as what works that depends on the road you take. Buy quality equipment and supplies is what works the best for me. Don't expect everything you turn out to be good, sometimes it does not turn out the way you thought. Sometimes a mistake is your best idea too. Never give up until you test it or try it. As far as pictures some of us could flood the board with what we have. Feel free to check out my site and ask me for help if you like. Make the drive over here and I will show you what pouring plastic is like if you are thinking about it.

I prefer the aluminum molds, injection and hand pour. Mostly 2 piece ones but you can get a decent one out of a one piece.

This is something I've been thinking about doing for LBJ,pouring my own soft plastics. Which site would be the best for a beginner and can you design your own baits or do you have to by the standard molds and just change colors, etc.? I'd like to come up with a couple different looks.

I think I've done more research on this subject than ANYONE!! I found the same sites mentioned above and asked tons of questions before I started pouring. I wanted to make my own so I researched that topic. I like the fact that I can "copy" anything with resin and the mold lasts forever (at least so far). When I "dream" up something new, I draw it out and use Sculpy clay, bake it then make your own mold. Nothing to it but as mentioned above...mistakes WILL be made and learn from them, ask questions and keep at it. As far as spinnerbaits, hard baits and such...you can do the same just sit back and search the sites, all of us were new to it and asked the same questions you have. Its funny cuz I've been thinking of getting into it again, along with jigs, I've always wanted to do jigs...as no one has created my perfect jig (its in my head)!!

For the most part you will not save money. The biggest plus is making your own designs and colors. Once you start making your own, those expencive baits start looking like a good deal. There are exceptions though, like jigs. If you loose a lot of them then you can make a bunch and save a little money.
