FYI Academy is looking for someone to pony up $1B for the chain. At least one analyst thinks they will not find a buyer at that price. Academy explores sale

hasn't it just become a clothing store?

When they hire someone like Goldman Sachs to try to sell their company than they probably are looking for someone that wants their land and or buildings. This would not be good new for fisherman if it happens.

It truly does look like fishing is becoming a Wal Mart sport. We have BPS and Cabelas but the mom and pop shops are gone and it seems no one wants to fill that void. I wish I had the money to open a shop I would specialize in Catfish, Carp, Crappie and have bass as a secondary. Sorry to say that but I think a niche store would do great.

The manager of Temple Academy Sporting claims the chain has been sold.

In our area's they are mainly sports like baseball, soccer, and basket ball. Every kind of uniform you need, on that they do include fishing and hunting uniforms. Here at the lake I still have Fisherman's Corner. It's a good thing they sell on the net becouse that's keeping them in there.

There is a thread in the general freshwater forum were I have weighed in my opinion in what the likely outcome will be.

That stinks, Academy has outfitted me with a lot through the years. I've always used Dick's Sporting Goods as a last resort; nowhere near the selection that Academy has but still cheaper than Bass Pro. Looks like I might be over a barrel on this one; may be time to take out a credit card that offers BPS reward points

They were sold to a invesment company called KKR who has bought out Safeway, Randalls, Duracell, and Toys are Us. I drive for Academy out of the Katy Distribution center and we have been told the only changes is they are going to open more stores. We will see.
