attaboy guys.

I gotta try that sometime.

Travis caught a (pending) lake record sandy out on Bob Sandlin this weekend. It was 1.73#. He's pretty jazzed about this. wink

You know what they say, hindsight is great. Oh well, Congrats anyway! I think we all know you are both very capable of it & have no reason to tell a tall "tail".

Sometimes, you just have to go back & climb the hill twice.

I forgot to ask what time the 15.5# hit & what time the 45# hit.

I just mentioned in the 45# flattie- Hubbard thread that prime time for Ops seem to be between 11 PM & 1 AM as to my findings.

It's almost as if somebody flips a switch & the starting gate is opened & they head off on a vaccuum feeding frenzy.

Also, I probably don't need to remind you guys as I'm sure you really know just how much power an Op really has, but once they cross the 60# barrier, they can take you straight out of the boat in just a split second or two. When I run lines and feel the slightest tug, I can tell if its an Op. I then set up for bracing & prevention of being pulled overboard. Of course you have two advantages, one is your rod-n-reel is in a holder & your boat has a higher ledge.

While many will say a Blue has great power, they are nothing compared to a mad Op. They have bullet speed & tractor pull capabilities.

That's also what a drag on a reel is for.

That green glow is storebought from Academy for about $19.00, it works great, you can see all your rods and it doesn't seem to bother the fish, and the bugs are not as bad as a white light!!!

That green glow is how you know if Tom is out fishing. When I cross the LL Toll Bridge and I see 2 of those green lights on the water I know Tom is out fishing. Of course, now that Tom is fishing from a new boat, he may only need 1 light.
Now all he needs is a red flashing light so when one of those idiots in his speed boat is heading at him at high speed he can turn it on and hopefully fool them into slowing down and changing course.

You dont need a red light, just a heavy duty floodlight to hit them in the eyes with. It shuts them down in a hurry!!!

Thanks Deerstrangler!

I was tired & forgot about the drag. Glad there is at least a little cushion

Speaking of the drag on a reel, that reminded me of a friend who went out with his older brother & either their Dad or a younger brother off Galveston area near a rig in a really big flat bottom. This was back in the 1980s. Roy's older brother (Gary) had one hit & he thought he had set plenty of drag to compensate for whatever monsters lurked below. One hit Gary's rod. I forget which end he was sitting on (as to front or back seat). But the line started screaming & heading to the other end of the boat. The boat was now headin' that away. And moving good. Either in the midst of this or at line's end of the reel, Gary flew out of the seat, clipped the middle one, and amazingly his knees & legs folded and wedged straight in under the seat of the opposite end of the boat he had been sitting in. I forget if the line snapped or it took it out of his hand finally, needless to say it was not the drag on the reel that kept him in the boat, but the "drag" of his knees under the seat that saved him.
