I love to sight fish. I have never used a platform while doing it though. I have seen people throw at the same 1-6 lb. bass for a couple of hours and not get bit. It takes skill to get one to bite, especially a big one. I once threw at a couple on the nest for over an hour before I finally stuck the male.( 4#-13Oz. ) I threw him to the opposite side of the boat and when I threw back in there the big female hit on the first cast.( 8#-15OZ )It is a war of wills and it is not random casting at a fish you can see. You must figure out the hot spot on the bed and then figure out what it takes to get the fish to hit. I talked to a guide at Lake Fork that said he threw for 3 days at an estmated 15# fish she never once made a move on his bait.

I don't call sight fishing cheating because you are allowed to fish during that time of the year (spawning). Most places I've lived the season is closed. However for us to defend it by saying it is tougher than regular fishing or you get more satisfaction is completely rediculous. Well when it comes to the satisfaction part that is my opinion.
Again I challenge you to catch 10 out of 10 sight fish. I am not saying its tougher than regular fishing. I am saying that it is not automatic like some think it is. There is an art to it that makes it interesting to me.

We should all just agree to disagree because this will always be a debate as long as people are fishing....this thread could go on for pages

I think TALL fishermen have an advantage over their height challenged brethren! Those fugitives from a basketball court can spot those bedding bass beauties much quicker than your average Joe Blow that can't see the top of the refrigerator without a step-stool! All tournaments should require anyone over five foot ten to HUNKER DOWN at any time they are not SITTING DOWN. It's only fair.

Ok for the hunting comment C'MON deer arent swimming around underwater. And secondly we use a DEPTH finder for just that. We don't own a Fishfinder or any fancy electronics. Matter of fact Im pretty sure it is like a $200 eagle, an older model. Don't get me wrong I love fishing with people who have the good stuff. And yes I would use it. And try to notice in my post that I heavily used the words: personally, I, and me. It's not like i get mad that people do it. You paid for your license just like I did. After reading what Mr. Perry said I would like to try it, sense it does sound like a challenge. I will admit I assumed it was easy

the reason ten for ten is not likely is the competition. if fish had never been caught off his/her bed, i'd like my chances with them. i love to sight fish, but also think that catching fish i haven't seen is harder and thus reason to be prouder.

a 3 pounder is much more easier to catch off of a bed than a ten pounder.

Sight fishing is a challenge the easy part is finding the fish on the bed the hard part is triggering it to bite. Sight fishing is fun and very exciting, is it cheating my answer is NO. Just bc you can see the fish doesn't mean your going to catch it.

No its not cheating. If sight fishing is cheating then so are having electronics. Sight fishing is just another style of fishing. Accept it

There is an art to it that makes it interesting to me. I never once said it was automatic. I suppose if I was a fish sitting on a bed and every sight fisherman around came up to me sooner or later I wouldn't bite either.

a 3 pounder is much more easier to catch off of a bed than a ten pounder. Amen.... cant remember how many hours Ive spent trying to get a potential DD to bite on a bed, only to eventually give up and call it quits As far as cheating... If I see a guy with a 30 foot platform come by me looking for bedding fish, my first thought is going to be "wow, how did he do that and I would like to try it and see how good it works, hope he doesnt take it under a power line." If its within the rules, its NOT cheatingIf you considered sight fishing cheating: by this same logic, maybe a real cane pole with twine, a homemade hook made from a clothes hanger and a minnow you caught by hand and fishing dirty water, where there is no way possible to see the fish...would not be considered cheating... But I bet someone on here would disagree!
