Maybe the power boaters out to ban together to ban all non powered craft and bank anglers as a hazard to boating?

Maybe the power boaters out to ban together to ban all non powered craft and bank anglers as a hazard to boating? Maybe the power boaters should unite with ALL outdoor sportsmen and form a single group to defend our outdoor rights? Stop infighting among ourselves! It's always been trotliners against bass fishermen, compound bow hunters against stick bows, power boaters against jet skis, centerfire against muzzelloaders and on and on. WE are our worst enemy.

The reason airboats are loud is from the prop tip breaking the sound barrier most airboats have mufflers. I don't see anyone crying when a plane flies over there house and say i hate airplanes. I do argee they are not quiet but neither is a airplane or a helicoptor or motorcycle with pipes. The sound goes away the same as the metioned. Airboats are very helpful in rescues especially on rivers when nothing else can make it if someone gets hurt and needs help and you can't get there in an outboard. Are you going to take your kayak up the river and get the injured person. I don't think so.

I run rivers a lot with a power boat, I speak from experience.
If you are a kayaker sitting in a shallow area of a river, 6-24" deep then you need to understand something about the way a power boat works.
When they slow down to "pay you respect" like you think they should they are going to tear the lower unit or off their motor or they are going to rip a hole in the bottom of their boat. That is the physics of the situation, don't try to argue the point that they shouldn't be going that fast, boats draft less when on plane, it is the only way to pass some areas.
Also, to those of you that have actually been on a river when an airboat or a power boat is approaching you its not like you can not hear it, especially an airboat. I humbly suggest moving to one side or the other so that they can pass. I understand that you have the right to be there just as much as they do, but you also have just as much obligation to be courteous as they do. Banning power boats is most certainly not the right way to handle this. Here is a hypothetical example, although not an exact match: If you hear a train coming you don't sit in the middle of the tracks and try to argue the point of who is right at the time, especially when you have ample time to move out of the way. True enough, the train has the right of way on train tracks, this is just an illustration aid. You should also consider that like trains, big boats don't stop on a dime, and in a bend they can't see you in the way which is why I suggest taking action first since in many situations you are going to be the first person aware of the other.
For my part, I know the areas I travel well, as long as it is safe for me to get off plane and go by slowly you can bet I will. I know it stinks when someone rides by going fast and acts like you don't matter and I don't like it any more than the next guy. The big picture here is that rivers pose a unique situation, and both sides need to be taken into account. Well said

A bill has to pass out of both senate and House to be sent to the govenor. You should be contacting your Reps and Senators at this point. Also, This bill was amended by the house and the senate did not concur, so a committee was set up to work out the difference SB 408 is Currently in committee as of yesterday and with the house having a 24 hour posting requirement for consideration and tommorrow being the last day of the session. I doubt this makes it through although they are known to suspend their own rules quite often. F.Y.I. the difference is in punishment and who can enforce it. the senate put nothing in and the house made it a clas c misdemeanor. So if the senate takes that out there would be no punishment. I am not an officer or a lawyer but I think that would mean if you were running an airboat all a judge or officer could do would tell you it is against the law and stop doing it.
