Loving the knot still tied on. LoL.
Makes you wonder why some baits are higher than others when you see how simple they are.

I think its the paint it looks like it has scales on bottom of bait compared to other similar topwaters. And a more subtle surface splash

The rattle design if very interesting. For all we know it's very scientific, and mimics a shad in distress. Science trumps magic, right?
Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

USA-1 I don't own any of those so it's up to you to show us the differance. And bwilliams you need to break down the pop'r .If you all think I can afford to tear up high dollar baits your wrong.I had a client smack a boat dock with this Yellow Magic,so I figured what the heck lets see whats inside.

I am also curious as to why I "need" to spend $15 on a yellow magic when a $3 pop-r looks very similar.

they just seem easier to work and they seem to almost "glide" when moved. Its a real subtle deal to me. They just see to mimic the way a baitfish moves moreso than most similar topwaters. I know the the popping and chugging action is important to but I have always felt that simulates the sound of other fish feeding in the area more than the bait itself if that makes sense. I think it gets the bass in a frenzy and they go on on the hunt when they hear it. Then when they see a splash and the bait still there think think its a stunned or injured baitfish.
Then again I suck at topwater fishing.

Mark you would be surprized at how many fish I catch just cranking it in like a crankbait.

The YM's were designed to be fished relatively fast and makes a "spitting" sound that mimics the sound of a threadfin shad when it breaks the surface chasing bugs. It catches fish being fished slowly too.
The Rebel Pop-R makes a "blooping" noise when it is popped. I have sanded the lip on many of them trying to get it to make the spitting noise. Zell Rowland put the Rebel Pop-R on the map many years ago. The Yellow Magic came about after he took some Japanese guys fishing and showed them what he was looking for.
Zell showed me several Pop-R's after he had sanded them down and got them really working well. His best ones felt like the walls of the bait were so thin you could feel it flex when you squeezed the bait between your thumb & forefinger.
And that my friends is how the Yellow Magic came about!
